נמל התעופה הצבאי שהותקף נמצא במחוז אִידְלִיבּ בצפון סוריה. זהו אזור שטורקיה פורסת עליו את חסותה, ופורסת בו גם צבא, מתקנים, סוללות טילים וכו.

הכתבה חושפת כי הממשל הטורקי משנע אל תוך סוריה חמושים אסלאמיסטים טורקיים, שנראה כי אינם דוברי ערבית, ואלה מהווים את הבסיס לנוכחות הטורקית בצפון סוריה. צבא טורקיה מְחָפֵּ"ק אותם בכטב"מים, מחפה עליהם, ועתיד לעבוד את הנוכחות הטורקית בעתיד בנוכחות צבאית סדירה. זו הפעם הראשונה שרואים מיהם הטורקים הנמצאים על אדמת סוריה, ומה בדיוק הותקף והדרך הדי-דומה לדרך שבה פעלה איראן בסוריה, שבה פועלת טורקיה. עם מיליציות אסלאמיסטיות טורקיות.

Al-Mashhad (“The Scene”) report on the Israeli strike on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northern Syria
The military airbase that was struck is located in Idlib Governorate in northern Syria. This is an area that falls under Turkey’s sphere of influence, where Ankara has also deployed troops, military installations, missile batteries and other assets.
The report reveals that the Turkish government is moving Turkish Islamist militants into Syria, who apparently do not speak Arabic, and that these forces form the basis of the Turkish presence in northern Syria. The Turkish military provides them with drone support and cover, while the Turkish presence is expected to be reinforced in the future by regular military forces.
This is the first time we are getting a look at who the Turks operating on Syrian soil actually are, what exactly was targeted, and the method by which Turkey is establishing its presence.
The approach bears considerable similarities to the model previously employed by Iran in Syria — building influence and a military footprint through aligned militias — in this case, Turkish Islamist militias.
