אם להסתכל על האזור שסמוך לקיר התמך הדרומי של הר הבית, הידוע בשם "העופל".
המיקוד כאן הוא מחוץ ל"גן הארכאולוגי".

בנקודה הזאת אפשר להתרשם מלמעלה על שכבות הבנייה מהתקופות השונות, מתקופת בית ראשון בעומק, לתקופת שיבת ציון ובית שני, לתקופה ההלניסטית והרומית והאסלאמית המוקדמת ועד לימינו.

מרחוק זה נראה כמו בלגן של קירות הרוסים, אבל כשמתקרבים אפשר לראות בבת אחת את אלפי שנות ההיסטוריה של ירושלים.

How ancient is Jerusalem?
If you look at the area near the southern retaining wall of the Temple Mount, known as the "Opel".
The focus here is outside the "archaeological garden".

At this point, you can get an impression from above of the layers of construction from the different periods, from the First Temple period in depth, to the Return to Zion and Second Temple periods, to the Hellenistic and Roman and early Islamic periods, and to the present day.

From a distance, it looks like a mess of ruined walls, but when you get closer, you can see the thousands of years of Jerusalem's history at once.
