Since the ceasefire in April, Hezbollah has been making extensive use of FPV explosive drones against IDF forces in southern Lebanon. Some of them are fiber-optic guided. These commercial and inexpensive drones cost as little as $300.

The use of fiber-optic control completely neutralizes Israel’s advanced jamming and electronic warfare systems. Due to the drones’ minimal radar signature, detecting them is extremely difficult.

The drones are operated directly by dozens of Hezbollah operatives who were specially trained for this purpose and deployed across southern Lebanon.

זו מתקפת הרחפנים העצימה ביותר על ישראל עד היום

1. אמש בשעות אחר הצהריים, שוגרו שני גלים של נחילי רחפנים לעבר גבול הצפון. בגל הראשון - 2 רחפנים לעבר כוחות צה"ל בדרום לבנון ופצעו שני לוחמים (בינוני וקל). 2 רחפנים נוספים שוגרו לעבר יעד בגבול הצפון והציתו שריפה. חיל האוויר ניסה ליירט כמה מהם.

2. פחות משעה אחר כך - גל נוסף ועצים יותר: מספר רחפנים שוגרו לעבר אותו יעד בתוך שטח ישראל וחגו סביבו במשך דקות ארוכות, כשהם מחפשים את נקודת הפגיעה האידיאלית.

3. לוחם ל-i24NEWS: "ראיתי שניים פוגעים במטרה, תוך 5 שניות זיהינו אחד נוסף מרחף בין המבנים ומחפש אנשים. אתה רואה הכול בעיניים. את הסליל של הסיב, את הרחפן ומטען חבלה ענק".

4. זו הפעם הראשונה שמזהים מתקפה מתוזמנת על יעד בודד בשטח ישראל - והרחבה ביותר עד היום. לפי גורם בטחוני שמעורה בפרטי האירוע: הדאגה העיקרית היא מפני הסימולטניות של רחפנים רבים. גם אם הצלחת ללכוד שניים או שלושה, יש עוד אחרים שמנסים לזנב בך.

This was the most intense drone attack against Israel to date.

1. Yesterday afternoon, two waves of drone swarms were launched toward the northern border. In the first wave, two drones were launched at IDF forces in southern Lebanon, wounding two soldiers (one moderately and one lightly injured). Two additional drones were launched toward a target along the northern border, sparking a fire. The Israeli Air Force attempted to intercept several of them.

2. Less than an hour later came a second and more intense wave: several drones were launched toward the same target inside Israeli territory and hovered around it for long minutes, searching for the ideal point of impact.

3. A fighter told i24NEWS: “I saw two of them hit the target, and within five seconds we identified another one hovering between the buildings looking for people. You could see everything with your own eyes — the fiber-optic spool, the drone itself, and a huge explosive payload.”

4. This is the first time a coordinated attack on a single target inside Israeli territory has been identified — and the largest such attack so far. According to a security source familiar with the details of the incident, the main concern is the simultaneity of multiple drones. Even if you manage to take down two or three, others are still trying to pursue and strike you.
