What's the difference between F-1 and J-1 visas? 🎟

Let's find out! ⚑️

πŸ“Œ ELIGIBILITY

F-1 student visa: all students are eligible to apply for an F-1 visa, as long as they have been admitted to a full-time program, meet the English requirements, and can show the proof of funding πŸ’Έ

J-1 exchange visitor visa: as its name suggests, this visa is for exchange students. Eligible students are those who can show substantial proof of funding ( at least 51%) πŸ’°

πŸ“Œ DEPENDENTS (SPOUSE AND CHILDREN πŸ—Ώ)

F-1 student visa: F-1 holder's children and spouse are eligible to apply for an F-2 visa. F-2 children may attend full-time kindergarten, elementary or secondary school. Though, they are not eligible to apply for any work authorization in the U.S. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦

J-1 exchange visitor visa: J-1 holder's dependents are eligible to apply for J-2 visa. They can apply to USCIS for work authorization by demonstrating a need for supplemental support for self or children. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§

πŸ“Œ HEALT INSURANCE

J-1 student visa: Federal regulations do not require F‐1 students and their F‐2 dependents to carry Health Insurance, but some universities may require. πŸ’Š

F-1 exchange visitor visa: Both J‐1 students and their J‐2 dependents are required to have comprehensive medical coverage that fulfils U.S. government regulations regarding the J Exchange Visitor status. πŸ’Š

πŸ“Œ TWO-YEAR HOME COUNTRY RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

J-1 student visa: There is no home residency requirement following the completion of program.

F-1 exchange visitor visa: Home residency requirement means that upon completion of the program, some students and J‐2 dependents must reside in their countries of legal permanent residence for 2 years before they are eligible for U.S. work visas (H or L) or an immigrant visa. 🏘

πŸ“Œ ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT

J-1 student visa: Eligible for on‐campus employment and does not require prior authorization from the ISSS. *limited to 20 hours during studies. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

F-1 exchange visitor visa: Must report employment with online form to ISSS. *limited to 20 hours during studies. πŸ‘·β€β™‚πŸ‘·β€β™€

πŸ“Œ IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS

F-1 student visa: The US Department of State permits the emailing of I-20s. πŸ“„

J-1 exchange visitor visa: The US Department of State now permits emailing of the DS-2019. πŸ“ƒ

https://www.wikihow.com/Reflect-on-Your-Life

What I lately found that the best way to write a personal statement is tirelessly reflecting on your life. By writing hundreds of reflection essays about your life, you can eventually unite them into one perfect 600/650 word essay after so much editing. (Btw, it is not my own words, I learnt it by reading the messages from some previous successful applicants' channels)

I wish I had much time for writing many personal statements and chose one or unite them into one perfect one, but I started writing it too late. Still, ig it is much better to master smth, though somewhat late, than just regretting about not doing it all the time.

In this site I shared here, you can learn how to reflect on your life effectively. Found it so useful:)

Peace!

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw was this page. Although I decided not to send it at first, I still shared.

Even though I was impassionately waiting for an acceptance letter, I am still happy because getting waitlisted is much better than getting a straight rejection letter for me. Because when I get rejected, that means I am much weaker than other candidates or inqualified for the admission. But being waitlisted is mainly because the campus size is small, and the university wants to choose extra students with good potential among those who are waitlisted.

Grinnell college, which has an admission rate of about 10%, is among a few colleges which are need-blind, which means that If I get accepted, they will give me a full ride scholarship. Even though there is a less hope of getting accepted-about only 7-8% of waitlisted students are admitted since it is a very competitive college- I will try to do my best. I have to show/tell that this university is still my top choice by emailing them ig
