*New directions in place, eligible customers will get to choose one among the multiple card networks. Banks and non-banks will not be able to force customers to take credit cards issued by a particular card network with whom they have any tie-ups. The move will boost competition among card networks as they will have to issue cards with attractive features.*

💳 5 credit cards-
There are five authorised card networks in India:
1. American Express Banking Corp,
2. Diners Club International Ltd,
3. MasterCard Asia/ Pacific Pte Ltd,
4. National Payments Corporation of India–Rupay, and
5. Visa Worldwide Pte Ltd.

These authorised card networks tie up with banks or non-banks (card issuers) for the issuance of credit cards.

17. Hereinafter:
Meaning: In the following part of a document or text.

18. "Aforesaid"
(aforementioned is synonym but commonly used whereas aforesaid is more formal and legal) is an adjective that means mentioned or stated earlier in a document or conversation.
Example, "In the aforesaid report, the key findings were outlined."

✅ Article 20 doesn't prohibit lesser punishment

Answering in affirmative, the bench provided the benefit of the lesser sentence to be imposed on the accused/appellants by converting the sentence of the food company partner/appellant no.2 from three months imprisonment to Rs. 50,000/- only, after referring to the case of T. Barai v. Henry Ah Hoe.

“when an amendment is beneficial to the accused it can be applied even to cases pending in Courts where such a provision did not exist at the time of the commission of offence.”, the Supreme 💯 Court held in T. Barai v. Henry Ah Hoe.

Therefore, giving a benefit of the new Act, though it was not in force when the offence was committed, the Supreme Court gave benefit to the accused/appellants by converting the sentence of imprisonment to a just fine.
