๐The idea of simultaneous elections is inherently anti-federal
Notwithstanding the opposition from political parties and many in civil society to the idea of simultaneous elections, the Union government has decided to accept the recommendations of a high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind to go ahead with the scheme.
The committee envisaged simultaneous Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections as the first step, followed by municipal and panchayat polls within 100 days of the general election.
Two key reasons have been evinced for the proposal โ first, the costs of conducting these elections would be significantly reduced if held together, and, second, not having simultaneous elections has kept political parties in prolonged campaign mode, impacting governance and legislative work.

๐How SC strengthen child pornology law
โ IN A ruling that sets a new benchmark for action in pornography cases, the Supreme Court recently held that viewing, possessing and not reporting possession of any child pornographic material will constitute offences under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act even if this is not disseminated further.
โ The court's decision overturns a Madras High Court ruling that private possession or storage of child pornography was not an offense under the Act.
โ The court highlighted Section 15 of the POCSO Act and Section 67B of the IT Act, which criminalize not only the transmission but also the possession and viewing of child sexual abuse material.
โ The judgment emphasizes the psychological harm to victims, stating that knowing their abuse is being watched exacerbates their trauma.

๐One nation one fantasy
One Nation One Election is a desire to cut down clutter of democratic politics
Those who dominate Indiaโs social and economic life are increasingly impatient with its messy politics. They canโt do away with elections altogether, but the next best thing is to limit this mess. So that the business of governance can be carried out undisturbed for four years and nine months
The ONOE would offer โequitable opportunity to political workersโ since the same leader wonโt contest for MLA and MP. Not just that, ONOE would lead to โreduction in instances of hate speechesโ . It would solve the problem of โvoter fatigueโ

๐New Discovery Reveals Ongoing Volcanic Activity on the Moon
โ Researchers analyzed lunar glass beads from Chinaโs Changโe-5 mission.
โ These beads are created by volcanic eruptions or impact events like asteroid strikes.
The beads are spherical because it requires the least energy to form this shape, similar to water droplets in space or on Earth.
โ Composition: These beads contain silicon, magnesium, and iron, with small amounts of potassium, titanium, and uranium.
โ Glass Beads Analysis:
The team studied 3,000 beads focused on their physical and chemical composition.
They conducted sulfur isotope analysis to determine their origins.
3 samples were found to be from volcanic activity.
โ Dating the Activity:
Using uranium-lead radiometric dating method, the volcanic activity was dated to 116โ135 million years ago.
โ Typically, scientists rely on carbon, oxygen, and lead analyses, but sulfur is more effective due to its release during volcanic activity as Sulphur dioxide gas

Cross border insolvency
The integration of cross-border insolvency regimes is crucial for international trade, providing legal certainty and benefiting investments and trade.
The UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) has developed a Model Law on cross-border insolvency, recognized globally but adopted by only 60 countries so far.
India has not yet adopted the Model Law despite several recommendations and currently relies on limited provisions for cross-border insolvencies, viewed as inadequate.
India has signed various Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Comprehensive Economic Corporation Agreements (CECAs), and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) with over 54 countries, which lack detailed cross-border insolvency provisions.
The inclusion of sound insolvency laws in FTAs would enhance their effectiveness and benefit India's trade by providing mechanisms to handle insolvency of trading entities.
