Crypto exchange Binance has made a move toward taking part in the governance process of the decentralized exchange Uniswap, making it the second-largest entity by voting power in the Uniswap DAO. Binance delegated 13.2 million UNI tokens on Oct. 18 to its own wallet, meaning the exchange. Binance now has 5.9% of the voting power, calculated as a percentage of tokens delegated to the exchange out of all delegated tokens. It sits behind crypto VC firm a16z, which has 6.7% of the vote. The amount Binance has delegated represents 1.3% of the total supply of UNI. This is above the 0.25% threshold for proposing governance votes but below the 4% quorum required for votes to pass.

Kraken is now restricting Russia-linked accounts, according to Russian-language emails sent to customers and obtained by The Block. The developer of the decentralized finance platform Yearn, Banteg, tweeted that withdrawals were the only feature available. The extent of the restrictions currently in effect is unclear at this time, based on the email's contents. One source told The Block that on Oct. 19, some users were yet to experience any restrictions on their account, though The Block has not been able to independently verify this claim. Another user said their account was closed but that they could withdraw funds.

With competition remaining fierce among major players in the centralized crypto exchange sector, it is easy to forget that Binance dominates both spot and derivatives trading volume — and its competitors aren't even close to catching up.
Over the last 24 hours, Binance garnered just over 55% of the total spot volume for cryptocurrency exchanges tracked by The Block Research. Only three crypto exchanges accounted for more than 5% — Upbit (6.1%), OKX (5.4%) and Coinbase (5.3%) — while Kucoin and FTX accounted for 4.7% and 4.5%, respectively.

Payments giant Visa (V) filed two trademark applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) related to digital wallets, non-fungible tokens and the metaverse. Part of one of the applications applies for trademarks related to software for “management of digital transactions; use as a digital currency wallet and storage services software; use as a cryptocurrency wallet; and managing and verifying cryptocurrency transactions using blockchain technology," while another one is an application related to “providing temporary use of non-downloadable software.

Binance Global Sourcing was established last week, according to records from the Companies Registration Office (CRO), the central repository of public statutory information on Irish companies. The news comes after Binance picked Paris as its European hub after France's financial regulator granted Binance a license to offer and market its services to local customers in May. Last year, Binance considered Ireland as part of its plans to establish a number of headquarters worldwide to break with its "decentralized" structure and improve relations with regulators.
