Bridge vs No-Bridge (Conceptual)
What a bridge does
- Moves assets/data between chains (A โ B) via lock+mint, burn+release, or liquidity pools.
- Expands access to apps, yields, cheaper fees, and new ecosystems.
Main risks
- Smart contract bugs (bridge code is complex).
- Validator/multisig compromise (keys = funds).
- Liquidity risk (thin pools, slippage, stuck exits).
- Reorg/finality risk (tx โfinalโ on one chain, not on the other).
- Wrapped-asset risk (your token is an IOU; if bridge fails, peg can break).
When to avoid bridging
- You can buy the asset directly on the destination chain.
- Youโre moving a large % of your portfolio.
- The bridge is new/unaudited, or uses a small multisig.
- You need guaranteed redemption (no IOU risk allowed).
- Network conditions are unstable (congestion, outages, halted chain).
Simple decision tree
1) Can I avoid bridging? Buy/swap on destination chain โ Do that.
