During the 2026 bear market, whales appear to have increasingly used their holdings as collateral instead of selling.
Bitcoinβs share of collateral fell sharply from 57.8% in 2025 to 30.5% in 2026.
Meanwhile, $ZEC jumped to 24.2%, becoming the second-largest collateral asset in the data.

β’ $LINK : 1.6% β 3.2%
β’ $ADA : 1.9% β 2.6%
This is an interesting change in whale behavior. Instead of dumping $BTC during a weaker market, some large holders appear to be borrowing against their assets to access liquidity.
