UniCredit Considers Entering the Crypto Custody Market
Italy's second-largest bank, UniCredit, is considering offering its clients custody and trading of digital assets, Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the plans. The Milan-based bank is currently seeking a technology partner for the necessary infrastructure.
In addition to crypto custody, tokenized investment products, fixed-income securities, and stablecoin applications are also under consideration. No decision has yet been made, and the discussions are in their early stages.
This move follows a series of acquisitions: In April, UniCredit acquired a 16 percent stake in BlockInvest, and in September, a minority stake in the German provider VC Trade. The bank is also a member of the Qivalis consortium, which is planning a euro-denominated stablecoin.

Metaplanet Cuts Stock Options for Executives Following Criticism
Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has significantly reduced its controversial executive compensation pool. Approximately 105 million potential stock options from the tenth series were eliminated, representing a value of about US$220 million. The remaining pool has been reduced by 41 percent to 188.2 million shares.
This follows strong criticism from investors regarding the dilution. Just prior to the cuts, CEO Simon Gerovich himself exercised 64 million shares from the program.
The remaining options are also staggered and will not be available until between 2029 and 2031. This is intended to more closely link compensation to long-term performance.
