Day 10 β€” Ethereum Basics: Accounts, Gas & The EVM

Ethereum is more than a blockchain β€” it’s a programmable system.

To understand how it works, you need to know 3 core pieces:

Accounts, Gas, and the EVM

πŸ‘€ Accounts (Two Types)

Ethereum has two types of accounts:

Externally Owned Accounts (EOA)
β€’ Controlled by private keys
β€’ Used by real users (wallets)
Contract Accounts
β€’ Controlled by code (smart contracts)
β€’ Execute logic automatically

Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum uses a balance model (like a bank account).

⛽️ Gas (Why Transactions Cost Money)

Every action on Ethereum requires gas.

Gas is:

The cost of computation on the network

Examples:

Sending ETH β†’ low gas
Running a smart contract β†’ higher gas

You pay gas in ETH.

Why?

To:
β€’ Prevent spam
β€’ Reward validators
β€’ Allocate network resources

🧠 EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine)

The EVM is the β€œbrain” of Ethereum.

It is:

A global computer that executes smart contracts

Every node in the network runs the same code and gets the same result.

That’s how Ethereum stays consistent and trustless.

Part 2 of the previous post

πŸ”„ How It All Works Together

When you interact with Ethereum:

Your account sends a transaction
You pay gas in ETH
The EVM executes the code
The blockchain updates the state

Everything is:
β€’ Deterministic
β€’ Transparent
β€’ Decentralized

🎯 Key Takeaway

Ethereum works like a world computer where:

β€’ Accounts hold balances
β€’ Gas powers computation
β€’ The EVM executes logic

This is what makes smart contracts possible.

πŸ“ŠπŸ‘€ Strategy now holds more $BTC than BlackRock. Our accumulation cohort heatmap shows what's underneath.

815,061 $BTC. Avg cost ~$75,528. 34,164 added last week alone for ~$2.54B β€” the largest single buy in 17 months.

While the crypto community debates the price, the corporate treasury cohort has been quietly draining tradable supply for months. The accumulation pattern is visible if you know where to look.

πŸ•΅οΈ $BTC and global M2 quietly decoupled. The lag isn't where it used to be.

Historic correlation was approximately 84%. Since mid-2025, there has been a persistent divergence. Money supply is growing, but the cost of accessing it has also increased.

This is one of those insights that hides in the macro stack. We track M2 data from the US, China, EU, Japan, BRICS, and G20 side-by-side with on-chain metrics to make the connections clear.
