🇨🇳🇺🇸 Major Development: China and the US Reach Consensus on Eight Outcomes

Xinhua News Agency, Washington, September 25 — Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25 (local time). During the visit, the two heads of state held in-depth exchanges on building a constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the US, as well as on major international and regional issues, reaching consensus on eight outcomes, including:

1. Both sides agreed to build a "constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the US based on respect, fairness, and reciprocity."
2. Both sides agreed to support each other in successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the G20 Leaders' Summit. The two heads of state intend to attend the meetings hosted by the other side.
3. The two heads of state agreed that Iran should fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and that no country or institution should levy transit fees on international waterways.
4. The two heads of state recalled that China and the US were allies during World War II and fought side-by-side to win the war.
5. The two heads of state acknowledged the positive role of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism and the outcomes achieved by the economic and trade teams—including establishing and advancing mechanisms such as a trade council, reaching a reciprocal tariff reduction arrangement worth $30 billion, and extending the outcomes of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations—and instructed that these be implemented.
6. Cooperation between Chinese and US counter-narcotics law enforcement agencies has yielded tangible results. Recently, the two sides worked closely to jointly crack multiple cases involving new psychoactive substances and precursor chemicals, arresting dozens of suspects in both countries.
7. Both sides agreed to establish a China-US dialogue on artificial intelligence to exchange views on the risks and benefits associated with AI. The next dialogue will be held this November. Both sides agreed to establish a communication channel for AI-related incidents.
8. The US side welcomed the arrival in the US of the pair of giant pandas leased by China to Zoo Atlanta.

In addition, the militaries of China and the US agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on strengthening crisis communication and prevention as soon as possible, and to continue cooperation in searching for the remains of US military personnel missing in China.
