Bangladesh T20I skipper Litton Das has mentioned that there remains uncertainty over his fitness ahead of the first T20I against Australia on Wednesday, June 17, in Chattogram.
Das suffered a muscle tear in the third ODI, after which Soumya Sarkar was added to the squad as cover. Bangladesh are also monitoring the fitness of the backup wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon, who is battling a fever and a tonsillitis infection.
"First of all, I am better than I was before, better than the condition I was in. But we'll see today, and then after seeing tomorrow, a decision will have to be made regarding my situation. The reason for bringing Soumya in is that I was fifty-fifty; we don't know what might happen, and we have to wait until tomorrow," Das said, as reported by Cricbuzz
"And then Emon has a slight illness. So we didn't want to take the risk of suddenly calling up a player if something happened. That's why we tried to include him (Soumya). He may not be able to practice today, but from tomorrow he will be available and become part of the team," he added.
Bangladesh completed a 2-1 series triumph over Australia, their first-ever series win against the Aussies. Das stated that the win boosts their confidence, but the team will need to recalibrate due to this being a different format.
"Obviously, when you play good cricket against a big team... not only that you've won the series-we played very good cricket in all three matches. So that's a plus point. Obviously, the format is different, our team is different, and their team is different. One good side is that most of our players have played ODI cricket, not just the T20 side. So everyone has that confidence, and on the given day, you have to play very good cricket," he said.
Das further stated that he expects more responsibility from his lower-order batters and will need to anticipate the attacking intent that teams play the T20 format with.
"I'll say again, to beat any team, you have to play very good cricket on the given day. At the same time, as I said in the last series, those who bat in our lower middle order also have a lot of responsibility. If they get opportunities with the bat, and if we get a response from them, I think this team can achieve much better results. This format itself is hard. In the shorter-over format, every team approaches you with attacking intent. In fact, any team, whether batting or bowling, operates with that mindset. And Australia are obviously a big name. So they will try to play their best cricket, and obviously we will try to play our best cricket too," he added.
The skipper also backed left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam, who picked up six wickets in the ODI series.
"No, I don't think Shoriful ever thinks of it that way, that he's not first choice. Of course, he is also a first choice. But as you said, our team now has such a strong pace-bowling unit-whether in Test cricket, ODI cricket or T20 cricket, you can't play more than three pacers," he said.
"So if those three bowl very well on a given day, then one player has to make that sacrifice. I think in the last few series Shoriful may have played one or two games. Even in the last T20 series, he played the final match and bowled well. So it's a good sign that whoever comes into the game and gets an opportunity is delivering," he added.

Sri Lanka Cricket has handed down punishments to players for disciplinary breaches that occurred during the tri-series match between Sri Lanka A and India A in Dambulla. Match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash announced sanctions against the players involved in the altercation, with Vishen Halambage believed to be among those receiving the most severe penalties.
According to Cricbuzz, Jeyapragash also fined Niroshan Dickwella, despite his role as a peacemaker during the confrontation. However, it is understood that Dickwella's sanction was unrelated to the on-field altercation and instead stemmed from a separate incident that attracted international attention due to its unsavoury nature. The exact nature of his breach has not been disclosed.
Reports suggest that no formal hearing was conducted. Instead, Jeyapragash imposed the sanctions based on reports submitted by the on-field umpires. Interestingly, Jeyapragash's only international appearance as a player came in an ODI against India in 2005 at the same venue where the match was played.
Meanwhile, there is a sense of regret within the Sri Lankan cricket community regarding the events that unfolded on Monday evening. Sources indicate that the disappointment stems not only from the altercation itself but also from the fact that the incident involved Indian and Sri Lankan players on Sri Lankan soil. It is understood that the sanctions were imposed by SLC, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) playing no role in the disciplinary process.
It remains unclear whether any action has been taken against Indian youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was seen getting physical with Halambage after the conclusion of the ill-tempered contest, which Sri Lanka A won in near-darkness. The management of the Indian senior team is also understood to have commented on the incident involving Sooryavanshi.
"I think it was an unfortunate incident. But we don't know how he was provoked. Because as far as I know Vaibhav, he is a very composed boy. I'm sure there are experienced coaches there who will make him understand. And I think the Sri Lankan players should also be educated in terms of how they need to behave. And so does it go with us. We will make sure that information is given to him as to why that happened. But he will learn. He's a young kid and going forward, some sort of understanding will be there with him. I'm sure he will not repeat it,” said Sairaj Bahutule as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 delivered plenty of unforgettable moments on the field, and off it as well. Among them was the controversy involving Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Arshdeep Singh and Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma, which sparked widespread debate across social media.
Several weeks after the incident made headlines, Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh has shared his views on the matter. The wicketkeeper-batter, who has spent years alongside Arshdeep in the PBKS setup, defended his teammate and highlighted the close friendship between the two Indian cricketers.
The controversy stemmed from a social media clip that surfaced ahead of Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 encounter against Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala. In the video, Arshdeep jokingly referred to Tilak as “Andhere” while making a light-hearted comment involving sunscreen. He also called Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir the “asli noor.”
The clip quickly went viral and divided opinion among cricket fans. While many viewed the exchange as harmless banter between close friends, others criticised the remarks as casual racism. The debate gained further momentum after former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan publicly expressed his displeasure and called for action against the PBKS pacer.
Prabhsimran urged people not to judge the incident without understanding the relationship shared by Arshdeep and Tilak.
“They are really good friends. They can do anything between each other. It also depends on us as to how we take personal things. The two have played so much cricket together, so people should leave the matter to them,” Prabhsimran said to InsideSport in an exclusive interview.
The PBKS opener emphasised that the friendship between the two players has been built over years of playing together, and external opinions should not outweigh their personal understanding.
Around the same period, Arshdeep also attracted attention due to another off-field issue linked to content from a vlog. However, according to Prabhsimran , the left-arm pacer remained unfazed despite the criticism and scrutiny he faced online.
“No. It’s a good thing about his character that he remains the same way in both highs and lows. Everyone knows how hard-working he is. Now that’ll be wrong if you judge his cricket performances because of his life incidents,” he added.
Prabhsimran praised Arshdeep’s ability to stay focused on his cricket regardless of the noise surrounding him and credited his calm temperament for handling such situations effectively.
Despite the controversy, both Arshdeep and Tilak have continued to enjoy success at the international level. The pair was part of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2026 squad and remains an integral part of in India’s white-ball plans.

England Test captain Ben Stokes could be set for a return to county cricket after being left out of the squad for the second Test against New Zealand. The all-rounder is expected to be available for Durham’s upcoming County Championship fixture against Northamptonshire, with Durham head coach Ryan Campbell making it clear that the county would welcome him back with open arms.
Stokes’ omission from England’s squad comes amid an ongoing investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The 35-year-old, along with fellow England cricketer Gus Atkinson, is being investigated after reportedly breaching a team curfew following England’s victory over New Zealand in the opening Test at Lord’s.
With England preparing for the second Test at The Oval, Stokes has returned to training with Durham. Campbell revealed that the England skipper has remained positive despite the scrutiny surrounding him and continues to work hard behind the scenes.
“Our doors are always open for any of our Durham boys. If Ben happens to walk through it, I will definitely be waiting there with arms open wide," Campbell told BBC Radio Newcastle.
The Durham coach also came to Stokes’ defence, suggesting that some of the criticism directed at the England captain has been excessive. While acknowledging that the veteran all-rounder had made an error in judgment, Campbell believes the reaction has gone beyond what was necessary.
“Ben knows he made a mistake and broke the curfew, but some of the reaction has been a little over,” Campbell added.
“I’m a bit old school, I like a beer after a game of cricket if you’ve got 10 days off but I’m not the coach, I don’t run that system,” he continued.
Stokes had already featured in two County Championship matches for Durham before England’s home series against New Zealand. Campbell had previously indicated there was a strong possibility of the all-rounder turning out for the county side again, and his participation against Northamptonshire now appears increasingly likely.
If he does play for Durham, it may be his final red-ball outing before England’s Test series against Pakistan in August. As speculation continues over Stokes’ future as England’s Test captain, Durham remain firmly in his corner, with Campbell publicly backing one of the county’s most celebrated cricketers during a challenging period.

📢ENG vs NZ 2026: Joe Root admits envy of Ben Stokes ahead of surprise return as captain
ENG vs NZ 2026: Joe Root admits envy of Ben Stokes ahead of surprise return as captain (Photo by Gareth Copley/Getty Images)
England interim captain Joe Root has said he is approaching the Test captaincy on a game-by-game basis, but admitted he has been slightly envious of Ben Stokes for having the opportunity to work alongside head coach Brendon McCullum.
Root, who captained England in a record 64 Test matches, will make a remarkable return to the role for the second Test against New Zealand following Stokes' involvement in an incident at a London nightclub. The former skipper said he is in a very different place compared to when he stepped down as captain. Since relinquishing the role, Root has focused solely on his batting while playing under the leadership of Stokes and McCullum.
"I have really enjoyed the last couple of days working with Baz in a slightly different space. That is one thing, in a small way, in a good way - I was slightly envious of that opportunity to work with someone like Baz in this sort of capacity. It has been really cool the last couple of days,” said Root as quoted by BBC.
Stokes was left out of England's squad after breaching the team's midnight curfew on the night following their victory in the first Test. He was also present during an incident in which a member of England's security staff was struck by a Saracens rugby player. Root revealed that he has spoken to Stokes since last week's incident but said he preferred to keep the details of their conversations private.
The interim captain insisted that Stokes continues to command the respect of the England dressing room. Reflecting on his unexpected return to the role, Root said he would have rated the chances of becoming England captain again earlier this year at just 0.1%.
"Let's not look beyond this week. That's the most important thing, trying to deliver a really good performance this week. It's quite a young group of players. So, [I want] to offer my experience in that capacity and focus purely on trying to deliver this week,” said Root.
Root was preferred over vice-captain Harry Brook, who was overlooked amid his own off-field controversy in Wellington, where he was involved in an incident at a bar on the eve of a white-ball match last winter. The former England captain will now lead an inexperienced side in the second Test, with Jordan Cox and Sonny Baker among those set to make their Test debuts.
Root has previously revealed that he stepped down from the captaincy because he had developed an unhealthy relationship with the role. However, he admitted that it took only a brief period of consideration before agreeing to return as England's stand-in captain this time around.
"The only thinking that came to my mind is what is the best thing for this team, and is it going to have a big effect on me and my personal life, and which outweighed the other. We played around 20 Test matches in those Covid environments and watched the rest of the world go back to normality around you,” said Root.
"You are living a very different way to the rest of society. Over time that took its toll on the group but also myself. I found I ended up being so consumed with everything I wasn't the person I wanted to be and it was the right time to step away, not just because our performances weren't where they needed to be. It was a great opportunity for a fresh start for English cricket and was absolutely the right decision. It is going to be cool to experience it this side of it, the captaincy side of it with Baz and with this coaching group. I have never had more fun and got more out of a group of coaches than this one,” he added.

📢ENG vs NZ 2026: England lose Jamie Smith ahead of second Test as uncapped replacement gets the call

England will be without wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith for the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval after he left the squad for the birth of his daughter. Smith’s second child was born on June 16, just a day before the match began, and James Rew has been called up as his replacement.
Rew will keep wicket and bat at No. 7, becoming one of three England players set to make their Test debuts. He joins batter Jordan Cox and fast bowler Sonny Baker in a significantly reshaped side. It is the first time since England’s Test against South Africa at The Oval in 2017 that the team has fielded three debutants in the same XI.
The changes form part of a wider overhaul following England’s 115-run victory in the opening Test at Lord’s. In total, England have made five changes to the side. Joe Root has been appointed interim captain for the match, taking charge in the absence of regular skipper Ben Stokes. Although Harry Brook is England’s official vice-captain, the selectors have opted for Root’s experience to lead the team.
England will also be without Gus Atkinson and Ollie Robinson. Jofra Archer returns to the Test side after successfully managing his workload during and after his Indian Premier League campaign. His comeback provides a major boost to England’s pace attack.
The match comes amid reports that Stokes and Atkinson were stood down following an incident that allegedly involved an altercation with a Saracens rugby player. Reports suggest that an ECB support staff member required medical attention.
For New Zealand, Henry Nicholls replaces Kane Williamson after the former captain’s surprise retirement from international cricket. Opener Devon Conway, who briefly returned home for the birth of his child following the defeat at Lord’s, has rejoined the squad and will play in the second Test.

England XI for Second Test vs New Zealand:
Emilio Gay, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root (C), Harry Brook, James Rew (WK), Jordan Cox, Jofra Archer, Matt Fisher, Josh Tongue, Sonny Baker

India's young 15-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi , was involved in a heated exchange with Sri Lankan cricketer Vishen Halambage during the Sri Lanka A vs India A clash at Dambulla on June 15.
After India had lost the game in the Super Over, Sooryavanshi and fellow batter Suryansh Shedge were seen to be engaged in a heated exchange with the Sri Lankan team, following which the young southpaw pushed Halambage, which saw matters get even more intense, before wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella diffused the situation.
In a further development, as reported by Cricbuzz, it has been stated that Halambage had been trying to get under the skin of the young southpaw since the first game on June 9. India won that match in dramatic fashion by eight runs, holding their nerve to defend a total of 278.
It has been reported that Halambage had been sledging Sooryavanshi during the second game as well, when India were batting, which continued into the Super Over. The 21-year-old reportedly jibed the Indian batter about his participation in the IPL, saying, 'Go home; this is not the IPL', and made similar provocative remarks along those lines.
Further reports mention that a few senior Sri Lankan players who know the young starlet through the IPL have approached him to express their regret over the incident. It was also stated that certain members of the Sri Lanka A team believed that they should apologise to the Indians. It was unclear whether such an apology was conveyed to the Indian team or to the player, but the topic of the altercation, and whether to apologise, was discussed in the hosts' dressing room after the game.
The altercation was the culmination of a series of events that marred the end of the clash between the two teams. There were multiple heated discussions between Tilak Varma and the umpires, first surrounding the commencement of the Super Over amid bad light concerns and a further altercation over a controversial no-ball call during the Super Over bowled by Arshad Khan .

England Women managed an easy win against Ireland at the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 clash during Match 8 on Tuesday, June 16. Completing a clinical four-wicket victory with 15 balls to spare, as they chased down the 119-run target with utmost comfort at the Rose Bowl, Southampton.
The game had started with Ireland coming in to bat after England won the toss and opted to field first. The hosts dominated right from the start, allowing the Gaby Lewis-led side to compile only 38 runs in the powerplay, losing three wickets in the process. Orla Prendergast tried to steady the momentum from there and was complemented by Louise Little with a 15-ball 26 towards the end to take Ireland to 118-9 after 20.
England did not do exceptionally well in the powerplay either, managing only 35 for the loss of three wickets. But Nat Sciver-Brunt (48 off 37), their experienced skipper, managed to put in 48 on the board alongside Heather Knight (26 off 23). Prendergast shone with the ball as well, taking 2-17, but it wasn't enough, as England breached the finishing line in the eighteenth over.
Top batting performance of the match: Nat Sciver-Brunt
Sciver-Brunt came into the middle in a dangerous situation, as England were in some sort of trouble having lost three in the powerplay. However, her steady knock ensured that there were no major hiccups later. However, she felt a calf strain, forcing her to retire herself out of the innings, falling just a couple of runs short of a half-century. Nonetheless, she did her job well to make sure her side did not falter.

📢West Indies announce Test squad for WTC series against Sri Lanka

The West Indies have announced their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, commencing on Thursday, June 25. Roston Chase leads the side, which sees the return of some other important players as the island nation looks to bounce back in the World Test Championship (WTC).
Wicketkeeper Joshua De Silva and Amir Jangoo lead the list of returnees to the international setup following excellent campaigns in the West Indies Championship, their version of a First-Class competition. De Silva ended the recent 2026 edition of the tournament as the leading run-getter, hitting 413 runs at an average of 59, whilst captaining Trinidad & Tobago to the title. Meanwhile, his domestic teammate Jangoo ended as the second-highest run-scorer with 411, averaging 68.50.
West Indies' fast-bowling department also gets a boost with the return of Shamar and Alzarri Joseph. The duo missed the tour of India and New Zealand in 2025 due to their respective injuries. Their comeback will take the burden off Jayden Seales, with the trio expected to start the game in Antigua & Barbuda on June 25.
"Every Test series is an opportunity for us to grow as a team and strengthen our identity. Sri Lanka are a quality side, so we know we'll have to be at our best, but we're excited about the challenge ahead. For us, it's about playing with discipline, showing character when the game gets tough, and representing the West Indies with pride. The players have been putting in the work, and we're looking forward to putting on a strong display for our fans across the Caribbean," Coach Darren Sammy said in an official statement.
As things stand, a few Test players are participating in a training camp in Antigua, which originally started on June 12 and will be running for 10 days. However, players who took part in the preceding white-ball series joined a few days later. West Indies took home the T20I series 2-1 before losing the ODIs 1-0.

Should Shubman Gill take over Virat Kohli's No. 3 spot in ODIs?
Shubman Gill has made rapid strides in world cricket, especially in the 50-over format. He has decent numbers in the other two formats as well, but in ODI cricket, he is class personified.
