Shreyas Iyer asserted that despite India's T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, there were a lot of positives that emerged and it will benefit the team going forward.
Since Iyer took over the reins from Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I skipper, the Men in Blue have lost six out of the seven matches they played, two against Ireland and four against England. The three-time T20 World Cup champions will look to redeem themselves when they take on Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series at the Harare Sports Club this week.
"We had a rough patch in England, but there were a lot of positives out of that. We got to know what we have to build as a team going forward, what kind of presence of mind, awareness and adaptability we need once we step onto the field," Iyer said on the eve of Thursday's first T20I.
The 31-year-old said that it is important for the Indian players, especially the ones who are touring Zimbabwe for the first time, to get accustomed to the conditions.
"Some of us are playing here for the first time, so the quicker we adapt, the better results we will get," the Mumbai batter said.
Iyer also stated that the disappointing results in Ireland and England have brought his players closer to each other and hoped that they would be able to bounce back strongly from the debacle.
"The results didn't go our way, but that has brought the team closer to each other. We've been having a lot of discussions about how we're going to play as a unit going forward, especially against Zimbabwe right now. We've had three series outside India, and it's a great exposure for us as a team because you don't get this often. This is a challenging phase, and the quicker you overcome it, the better you become as a team and the results will eventually follow," Iyer mentioned.

Shreyas Iyer explained why fear of failure can be detrimental to India's chances. He also urged his players to refrain from adhering to outside noise and focus on playing good cricket and performing as a unit.
"I don't think they should fear failure because when you have such thoughts at the back of your mind, then you play to save yourself. When you don't have that fear, you can get the best out of yourself. We don't have to think much about what people are saying outside. We have to stay in the present. The more we play good cricket and play together as a unit, the better it will be for the team," Iyer stated.

Sharma represented Australia at the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup and was also part of the Melbourne Stars squad last season.

Ebadot will remain in Bangladesh as he prepares to welcome his first child. Meanwhile, the visitors are also sweating over the availability of fast bowler Nahid Rana, who is awaiting the results of scans on a side injury and remains doubtful for the opening Test. There is, however, optimism that wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das will recover from a calf injury in time for the series.
Bangladesh will arrive in Australia early next month and will play a three-day warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI in Darwin from August 3. The practice fixture will provide valuable preparation ahead of the opening Test at the same venue. Batting coach Mohammad Ashraful is hopeful that all the injured players will recover in time, giving Bangladesh a full-strength squad for the series.
"It will be tough in Australia, but the positive is that we will travel there early...10-12 days in advance. We will have the opportunity to play a three-day practice match, and hopefully, if all our players are fit, we will be able to perform well there," said Ashraful as quoted by ICC.
Ashraful expressed confidence in Bangladesh's batting unit despite its struggles in the recent Test against Zimbabwe in Harare, where the side was bowled out cheaply in a heavy defeat. He believes the batters can bounce back against Australia, pointing to their impressive performances during Bangladesh's historic 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan earlier this year.
"Our batters did really well over the last seven months. One series can go wrong; one Test match went bad, but in the four Tests before that, our batters played extremely well," Ashraful said.
"See, we can lose one or two games in different conditions. After playing so well over the last seven months, there is no reason to be demoralised after losing one or two matches, I believe. Obviously, they have gained experience from playing in different conditions," he concluded.

Young India batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has admitted that the last few months have been a rollercoaster in his cricketing journey. However, the 15-year-old stated that he remains confident and is focused on following his process ahead of India's T20I series against Zimbabwe, which gets underway in Harare on Thursday, July 23.
Sooryavanshi enjoyed a meteoric rise after his exploits in the IPL, earning maiden India call-ups for the T20I tours of Ireland and England. While he did not get a game in the two-match series against Ireland, the youngster made his international debut in the second T20I against England in Manchester, becoming India's youngest-ever international cricketer.
The left-handed batter featured in the next three T20Is but failed to make a significant impact with the bat. He was subsequently dropped for the fifth and final game after Sanju Samson returned to the playing XI. India eventually suffered a 4-0 series defeat.
Despite the challenging start to his international career, Sooryavanshi insisted he remains unfazed and is committed to giving his best for the team.
"Yes, there have been several ups and down in the last four months; it's part of cricket [and] it will keep happening but I have to follow the process and give my 100% for the team," Sooryavanshi told bcci.tv.
The teenage sensation also acknowledged that handling setbacks at such a young age is not easy but credited the support from the coaching staff for helping him stay on track.
"It's an obvious thing that whatever I want [in terms of guidance and support], the coaches are making it available and whatever practice I require I am getting that. Feeling very good, there is confidence also," he continued.
Sooryavanshi will return to a venue that holds special memories for him. Earlier this year, he played a pivotal role in India's victorious Under-19 World Cup campaign in Zimbabwe , smashing a sensational 175 off just 80 deliveries against England in the final to guide India to the title.
The youngster said he is eager to draw confidence from that experience and make the most of his familiarity with the conditions in Harare.
"I'm playing on a ground where we won the Under-19 World Cup four months back and made history [and] to return to the ground and play here will be an altogether different feeling... really enjoying it. The pitches and the conditions here, I've got a fair idea about them when I last played here during the Under-19 World Cup. So, I will try what all I gathered during that tournament to apply those learnings during the matches now and do well."
"I will back my practice which I have done so far and try to back my game... and whatever contribution I can make for the team I will try to give that. I have played two matches on this ground (and) it went well. I will try to carry it forward,” he concluded.

📢'It's pretty exciting for him' - Durham coach hints at franchise gigs for Ben Stokes after England retirement

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell has talked about Ben Stokes ' future endeavours with the county and the possibility of playing franchise cricket in the coming months. This comes after the former England Test captain returned to professional cricket for Durham after retiring from international cricket.
Campbell stated that Stokes would be available for selection for a host of matches in the One Day Cup and the County Championship. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten hundred on his return to representing his county to secure a win against Derbyshire in the 50-over competition.
"He is now a retired Test superstar who has reported back for duty for Durham so we will basically plot a course that will involve playing in the One-Day Cup and playing as many of the six four-day matches. We're obviously going to keep an eye on him if his loads are going through the roof but he's tough. At this stage he's going to play every game we can," Durham coach Ryan Campbell said to the BBC.
Campbell hinted that Stokes will want to play franchise cricket across the world in 2027. The 54-year-old coach also revealed that the Durham management will try to strike a contract with the now-retired left-handed batter for the coming seasons.
"Going forward, I would have thought that will include next year as well. We'll sit down and for the first time have to work out a contract for him which is something we haven't done before. But, just listening to him, there will be a couple of franchise worlds that he will want to put his toes into and with that, plus our stuff, I reckon it's pretty exciting for him," he added.
Stokes has not played franchise cricket since turning out for the Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Leeds) during The Hundred 2024. He played just three matches before sustaining a hamstring injury. Durham head coach Ryan Campbell has talked about Ben Stokes ' future endeavours with the county and the possibility of playing franchise cricket in the coming months. This comes after the former England Test captain returned to professional cricket for Durham after retiring from international cricket.
Campbell stated that Stokes would be available for selection for a host of matches in the One Day Cup and the County Championship. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten hundred on his return to representing his county to secure a win against Derbyshire in the 50-over competition.
"He is now a retired Test superstar who has reported back for duty for Durham so we will basically plot a course that will involve playing in the One-Day Cup and playing as many of the six four-day matches. We're obviously going to keep an eye on him if his loads are going through the roof but he's tough. At this stage he's going to play every game we can," Durham coach Ryan Campbell said to the BBC.
Campbell hinted that Stokes will want to play franchise cricket across the world in 2027. The 54-year-old coach also revealed that the Durham management will try to strike a contract with the now-retired left-handed batter for the coming seasons.
"Going forward, I would have thought that will include next year as well. We'll sit down and for the first time have to work out a contract for him which is something we haven't done before. But, just listening to him, there will be a couple of franchise worlds that he will want to put his toes into and with that, plus our stuff, I reckon it's pretty exciting for him," he added.
Stokes has not played franchise cricket since turning out for the Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Leeds) during The Hundred 2024. He played just three matches before sustaining a hamstring injury. Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket during the final Test of the series in June, while McCullum was subsequently relieved of his duties as head coach of the Test side.
Finch said the events surrounding England's recent struggles have been difficult to ignore and claimed many Australians have been watching the situation unfold with amusement.
"You never want to see players feel like they're being forced out or coaches be sacked. But the way that it's all panned out, it has been a little bit like a circus,” Finch said while speaking on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast.
The former Australia skipper also aimed at England's preparation for the Ashes, questioning the decision to skip a warm-up fixture before the series and suggesting the team was overly confident heading into the tour.
"When you look back to the preparation of the Ashes, I thought, not having a warm-up game for whatever reason. Everyone's got their opinion on why they weren't able to have one at the WACA, which is the closest replication you can have to Perth Stadium. And almost shutting everybody out saying: 'No, we know best. We know what we're doing. We're here to win,” he continued.
"And then for it to fall apart like that, to see where it goes in the New Zealand series, where New Zealand played traditional hard Test Cricket and found a way to grind out a win. They go on and win a series, which is hard to do away from home. Every team says that winning away from home is their biggest challenge”, Finch added.
Finch further suggested that England's approach, both on and off the field, contributed to their recent struggles. He added that while Australians could relate to going through similar phases in the past, England's current situation has become a source of amusement across the border.
"I think that when you look at it as a whole, you say there's been a few decisions that, whether it be style of play, shot selection, decisions behind the scenes, as an Australian, you sit back and giggle a little bit because at different times we've been in that position as well. But you can understand it," Finch concluded.
