Rohit Sharma's magnificent century in the third ODI against England at Lord's grabbed plenty of attention, but an interesting story behind the bat he used has now come to light. The Indian opener's record-breaking knock was played with a bat gifted to him by his Mumbai teammate, Shardul Thakur.
Rohit smashed a brilliant 138 off 110 balls, laced with 17 fours and five sixes, while chasing a daunting target of 388. Although India eventually fell 27 runs short as England sealed the three-match series 2-1, the veteran opener's innings helped him script history by becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord's.
Thakur revealed that Rohit had requested a couple of bats after being impressed with the quality of the willow supplied to him by SS Bats.
"I am signed with SS bats and Jatin Sareen (owner) has been very kind to send me some excellent piece of willows. Rohit once requested me to give him a couple of bats since he loved them. We all love him, and he's given us so many joyful moments in the game of cricket that denying him the bat was out of question. And today I am really happy that he scored his historic hundred at Lord's cricket ground using one of my bats," Thakur told The Indian Express.
The all-rounder also confirmed the same while on commentary during the match, joking that he had indirectly played a role in India's impressive start.
"Yes, that is my bat. (Jokingly) I have given India a start while sitting here inside the comm box," said Thakur.

Six teams have announced their squad after the 2026 Canada Super60 Draft on Tuesday, July 21. The 10-over competition is set to return for its second season, with the entire event taking place at BC Place in Vancouver from September 29 to October 4.
Before the draft, teams were allowed to sign new players whilst retaining stars from their previous campaigns. The pre-draft signings included some of the biggest names in T20 cricket, including Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Sam Billings and Jonny Bairstow.
During the draft, teams were allowed one marquee player, two wildcards, four international stars, five Canadian players and a further three players from Associate nations.

As reported by The Times of India, informal discussions regarding the squad took place during India's recently concluded white-ball tour of England. However, the selectors are now awaiting clarity on the fitness of all-rounder Washington Sundar , whose injury has emerged as a key selection concern.
Washington sustained a right hamstring injury during the ODI series against England and was ruled out of the third and final ODI at Lord's. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the injury as a hamstring issue, the report states that the all-rounder will now head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for further assessment before receiving clearance.
The discomfort had eased by the time Washington reached London, but he was advised to undergo scans, which were later reviewed by specialists. Even if the injury is only a Grade 1 strain or a minor pull, the 26-year-old is expected to require at least two weeks to regain full match fitness.
With India's departure for Sri Lanka just around the corner, the selectors are expected to closely monitor his recovery before making a final call.

If Washington fails to recover in time, the selectors could either retain Harsh Dubey or bring in an off-spinner like Saransh Jain to provide balance to the spin attack. Manav Suthar and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to keep their places, while the pace department could comprise Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna.
Jadeja had missed the Afghanistan Test following the IPL, but chief selector Ajit Agarkar had reiterated his importance to the side, calling him the "no. 1 spinner in the format".

The Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy has strengthened its international footprint with the launch of its first academy in the Gulf through a new centre in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The expansion marks another step forward in Delhi Capitals' growing global academy network and its vision to make cricket more inclusive around the world.
The Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy will operate in partnership with JSC Sports, the first international cricket academy in Jeddah. The academy currently trains more than 50 boys and girls between the ages of five and 17 across four development categories with a vision of providing young cricketers with long term development opportunities.
The partnership will see the implementation of Delhi Capitals' structured coaching curriculum, technical framework and player development philosophy at the Jeddah centre. Players will have access to ICC-certified coaches, high performance training facilities, specialised coaching tools, performance monitoring, exchange programmes, camps and wider opportunities across the Delhi Capitals Academy ecosystem, enabling them to train within a globally connected development structure while preparing to compete at international standards.
The expansion also comes at a time when cricket continues to gather momentum across Saudi Arabia. Supported by the country's Vision 2030, investment into sport has accelerated significantly in recent years, creating new opportunities for cricket to grow alongside other emerging disciplines. The partnership aims to contribute to that growth by strengthening grassroots development and creating clearer pathways for aspiring cricketers across the region.

Our objective has always been to build a globally connected cricket development ecosystem where young players irrespective of geography have access to opportunities. The academy's girls' team were crowned champions at the Saudi National Games 2024, while its association with the Saudi Cricket Federation has included hosting the selection trials for the Saudi Men's National Team.

The six participating franchises finalized their squads during the 2026 Canada Super60 Player Draft on July 21, adding several established T20 stars and promising Associate cricketers to their rosters.
Ahead of the draft, franchises were allowed to retain players and complete pre-draft signings. Several marquee names, including Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Sam Billings, and Jonny Bairstow, were secured before the draft itself. During the player selection process, each team was permitted to pick one marquee player, two wildcards, four international players, five Canadian players, and three cricketers from Associate nations.

India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has opened up about one of the toughest phases of his international career during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The Kerala batter revealed that he initially found it difficult to believe Rohit Sharma's reassuring words after being left out of India's playing XI following a poor T20I series against New Zealand.
Despite Rohit's attempt to lift his spirits, Samson admitted he was too disappointed at the time to see the bigger picture. However, the setback eventually became the turning point in his World Cup campaign as he bounced back in remarkable fashion to play a key role in India's title-winning run.
Following India's T20I series against New Zealand ahead of the World Cup, Rohit had encouraged Samson to stay patient, insisting that his opportunity would come during the tournament.
"Dukhi mat ho bhai. It is a long tournament, kabhi bhi mauka aa sakta hai." ("Don't be disheartened, brother. It is a long tournament. You'll get your chance. The opportunity can come anytime,") Rohit had told Samson while embracing him.
Samson admitted that he struggled to accept those words at the time.
"To be honest, I didn't believe him at that time. Sorry. He might have spoken from his heart or from his experience, but that day I wasn't able to see what he was seeing. You could see it on my face; I was a bit off that day," Samson said while speaking to JioStar.
The wicketkeeper-batter also revealed that the disappointment stayed with him during the early stages of the tournament.
"Our World Cup campaign started two days after the New Zealand series, and it takes me at least a week to recover. I don't like to bottle things up, so it shows on my face if I'm not feeling 100 per cent. I went through that phase for four or five days before getting myself back on track," he added.
Samson explained that the difficult phase forced him to reflect on his purpose, which ultimately helped him rediscover his confidence.
"You know you've failed, so what's next? You're at the bottom, so from there, you can only go up. I started working on myself mentally. I started asking myself questions, why do I play cricket? What's my purpose? It was like I was rediscovering myself while the World Cup was going on. And then everything just came back," Samson said.
His comeback turned into one of the biggest redemption stories in T20 World Cup history. After initially missing out on the playing XI, Samson returned to the side and finished as India's highest run-scorer in the tournament with 321 runs in just five matches at an outstanding average of 80.25 and a staggering strike rate of 199.37.

His performance earned him three major awards: the Orange Cap, the MVP honour, and the Emerging Player prize. He also shattered Chris Gayle's record by smashing 72 sixes in a single IPL season. At the U19 World Cup final in February, Sooryavanshi produced a knock for the ages, blasting 175 off just 80 balls against England, with 15 fours and 15 sixes, to help India secure the title.
"Vaibhav is a supremely talented cricketer. If a 15-year-old kid is playing international cricket, criticising him after just two or three matches isn't justified. I think Vaibhav has a lot of very good senior cricketers around him. If he is managed and handled well, I think Vaibhav could be a generational talent," Raza said on JioHotstar.
