Young batter Amir Jangoo has stated that their side 'do not deserve' to be going through the qualifiers for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. The statement came as an aftermath of the Caribbean side's harrowing one-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the series at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Jangoo top-scored for the West indies , as they were bowled out for 188, scoring 51 off 73 balls. This loss has put the Windies in a precarious position with their qualification for the marquee event next year after having missed the 2023 edition. Jangoo backed the talent in the team and emphasised the need to start picking up results.
"The kind of quality that this team has, I think we don't deserve to be going to the qualifiers. It's just that's the position that we're in. But we know the quality that we have in our dressing room, all the bowlers, even young Vitel Lawes that we see making a breakthrough in this series here," Jangoo said after the match.
"So it's great signs to see. Going forward now, we have to play the right cricket and get those wins on the board for West Indies," he added.
The Men in Maroon were bowled out in 44.4 overs, making this the third match in succession where they have failed to bat their complete quota of 50 overs. Jangoo pointed this out as an area which requires better efforts and assured that the team will be working towards the qualifiers for the global event, which is set to be played in Africa.
"We haven't batted 50 overs in three games now. So I think that's on us, something that we have to look at internally in ourselves as batsmen and see how much we can better ourselves. And we have one more game to rectify that," the youngster further reflected on how the series has unfolded so far.
"Pretty difficult pill to swallow because we know how much was at stake here for this game. So it's all about understanding where we went wrong. We know the quality that we have in our team. I think going forward, we know what we have to work on, and for the qualifiers, we'll be ready," Jangoo added.
Despite the low total, the Caribbeans found themselves almost able to defend it successfully before Mitchell Santner and Jayden Lennox held their nerve to take the Kiwis home, despite Gudakesh Motie's five-wicket haul. Chopra was left worried by the lack of series India have won against top international sides in recent times. Apart from winning a solitary Test and an ODI series against Afghanistan, the Men in Blue have drastically struggled in overseas conditions.
"We have lost another series. It is not a good story. It is actually a sad story because we lost the T20Is in Ireland, then we lost to England, and now we have lost the ODI series. We are not winning anything. We won a Test against Afghanistan and an ODI series against them. What else have we won apart from that?" Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra also does not want to cloud India's recent run of poor results by their triumph at the 2026 T20 World Cup, which was again played on home soil. Winning and losing are habits, and the former player-turned-expert does not want his side to develop the latter.
"We won the World Cup, but we lost the ODI series to New Zealand before that. We lost the Test series to South Africa before that. We are losing more and winning less. We got happy because we won the World Cup in between, but we are losing a lot apart from that. We shouldn't acquire the habit of losing," he added.

His knock was laced with 17 fours and five sixes, starting cautiously before launching an onslaught on the England bowlers.
Batting first, England put on a mammoth 387 for 3 in their 50 overs on the back of a stellar 141 from Ben Duckett and half-centuries from Jacob Bethell and Joe Root. In response, India started the chase brilliantly with Rohit and skipper Shubman Gill stitching a 147-run opening stand. Rohit was the star of the show, supported by a 77 from Gill and a 74 from Virat Kohli . But a cluster of late wickets meant India fell short of the target by 27 runs in the end, ceding the series 2-1 to the hosts.
Speaking of the game, Rohit said that the Indian team was unable to step up with the bat in the losses in Cardiff and at Lord's after starting the series off on an excellent note. He further backed the bowling attack to perform in the future and termed this part of the learning curve.
"I was a little disappointed with the result because I thought we were playing really good cricket. You know, how we started in Birmingham. We played some really good cricket. We fell a little short at Cardiff with the bat actually. It was not enough score on the board. And then here, again, there was a massive total to chase. We tried everything we could with the bat but again, fell 20-25 runs short with the bat," Rohit said to the BCCI.
"Again, when it comes to bowling, you got to understand these guys haven't played a lot of ODI cricket. You got to give them some time. But yeah, hopefully we can learn from this game, take it into our stride. Make sure when we come across a situation like that, we try and better ourselves," he added.

Hampshire, who are owned by the GMR Group, the same as the Delhi Capitals (DC), were able to lure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) star for the entirety of the 50-over competition. Ashutosh comes into the One Day Cup having scored 171 runs from eight matches during the 2026 IPL, hitting at a strike-rate of 181.91.
The DC batter will add some much-needed experience and firepower to the Hampshire side for the One Day Cup. Since the tournament runs parallel with The Hundred, the Hawks will be without key players, including James Vince, Liam Dawson and Tristan Stubbs.
"We’re really pleased to sign Ashutosh for the One-Day Cup. He is a player of great potential and has done well for Delhi Capitals in the IPL recently so knows what it’s like to perform to a high standard. The complainant further stated that Porel had promised to marry her but later refused to fulfill that promise.
The woman also alleged that Porel threatened to circulate her intimate photographs and videos if she pursued the matter, leading her to approach the authorities.
The case has been registered at the Mogra Police Station. The First Information Report (FIR) reportedly includes non-bailable offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to rape and criminal intimidation. Following the High Court's directive, the police have been instructed to arrest the accused without delay and seize his electronic devices as part of the ongoing investigation.
