Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett added 192 runs off 181 balls to give England a great launching pad. After the former was dismissed for 91, Joe Root joined Duckett and they forged a 101-run stand in quick time. Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh hit a few boundaries at the end during an unbeaten 31-run partnership as the tourists were restricted to 360/7.

On Sunday, the veteran batter silenced his critics by playing a brilliant knock under pressure. In 110 balls, he smashed 138 runs, hitting 17 fours and five sixes. Had he played five more overs, he would have taken India to a much better position from where winning would have been easy.

Despite the pair ending the game on the losing side, both former captains played their 400th international game together, becoming the first Indian duo to accomplish this feat.
Rohit was the standout player in the match on Sunday, hitting 138 in the second innings to help India narrowly chase down 388 at the historic venue. Virat himself chipped in with a 60-ball 74, but his efforts were too little too late as far as the Men in Blue are concerned.
Two of India's talisman apply their trades only in the ODI format, having retired from Tests and T20 cricket over the past two years. Virat, who made his international debut in 2008, has gone on to score a total of 28,359 runs across all formats. Rohit , on the other hand, made his debut a year earlier and has scored 20,427 runs from 514 matches.
It is worth mentioning that the iconic India pair first took the field together during Virat's debut against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on August 18, 2008. Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann has backed former Australia teammate Justin Langer as England's next Test coach. The Three Lions are in search of a new red-ball coach after Brendon McCullum stepped down following their 2-1 series defeat at the hands of New Zealand.
Lehmann claimed that he has not received any communication from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about becoming their new coach. The 56-year-old has stated that England already have a name in their mind to replace McCullum as the Test coach, given he was removed midway through the international summer.
The former Australia all-rounder also insisted that he is happy with the current role as Northamptonshire coach. He recently guided the Steelbacks to their third T20 Blast title on Saturday, July 18, defeating Hampshire Hawks in the final in Birmingham.
"I'm very happy coaching Northants and I haven't had any phone calls. You'd certainly listen to it. I'm sure there's so many applicants. My feeling is they've already made up their mind. If you remove someone mid-summer, you've got somebody in mind," Darren Lehmann said on Sky Sports.
Lehmann also backed Langer to do a good job if he is in the reckoning for the England job. The former Australia opener is reportedly one of the names high on the shortlist after Andy Flower rejected the opportunity to take up the role.
"If he (Langer) were to go for it, he'd be a really good coach. Whoever takes it on, they've got some really talented players, I see some good players in the county system," he added.
Langer coached Australia out of the infamous 'Sandpapergate' and into becoming one of the best Test sides in the world. He guided the Aussies to retaining the Ashes in England conditions in 2019 before leading them to a 4-0 win on home soil in 2022.

Young batter Amir Jangoo has stated that their side 'do not deserve' to be going through the qualifiers for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. The statement came as an aftermath of the Caribbean side's harrowing one-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the series at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Jangoo top-scored for the West indies , as they were bowled out for 188, scoring 51 off 73 balls. This loss has put the Windies in a precarious position with their qualification for the marquee event next year after having missed the 2023 edition. Jangoo backed the talent in the team and emphasised the need to start picking up results.
"The kind of quality that this team has, I think we don't deserve to be going to the qualifiers. It's just that's the position that we're in. But we know the quality that we have in our dressing room, all the bowlers, even young Vitel Lawes that we see making a breakthrough in this series here," Jangoo said after the match.
"So it's great signs to see. Going forward now, we have to play the right cricket and get those wins on the board for West Indies," he added.
The Men in Maroon were bowled out in 44.4 overs, making this the third match in succession where they have failed to bat their complete quota of 50 overs. Jangoo pointed this out as an area which requires better efforts and assured that the team will be working towards the qualifiers for the global event, which is set to be played in Africa.
"We haven't batted 50 overs in three games now. So I think that's on us, something that we have to look at internally in ourselves as batsmen and see how much we can better ourselves. And we have one more game to rectify that," the youngster further reflected on how the series has unfolded so far.
"Pretty difficult pill to swallow because we know how much was at stake here for this game. So it's all about understanding where we went wrong. We know the quality that we have in our team. I think going forward, we know what we have to work on, and for the qualifiers, we'll be ready," Jangoo added.
Despite the low total, the Caribbeans found themselves almost able to defend it successfully before Mitchell Santner and Jayden Lennox held their nerve to take the Kiwis home, despite Gudakesh Motie's five-wicket haul. Mark Chapman top-scored for the Kiwis with an 82-ball 80 as the Black Caps took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

India , ranked number one in the ICC ODI Rankings, suffered a disappointing 2-1 series defeat to England. Going 1-1 into the decider, the two-time World Cup-winning side suffered a 27-run defeat after the hosts scored 387 runs in the first innings.
This ends a terrible tour of the British Isles, where they lost the T20I series to both Ireland and England, without a win to their name. The Men in Blue have a lot to ponder in the 50-over format with the 2027 Cricket World Cup just a year away.

Even Arshdeep Singh , someone with 91 T20Is under his belt, has played just 18 ODIs in his international career.
Shubman Gill's side were forced to rely on Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav, who had played just five ODI matches between them in their relatively fresh careers. The management decided to give rest to Mohammed Siraj amid workload management and did not pick the likes of Mohammed Shami or a resurgent Bhuvneshwar Kumar. On top of that, Harshit Rana was withdrawn from the side after injuring himself in the T20I series.

During India's best times in ODI cricket, they always had a settled batting order with players having designated positions. However, there was a little experimentation in the lineup, with Ishan Kishan coming in the playing XI for the second ODI. Before his arrival, number four had been Shreyas Iyer's position for more than three years, but he was forced to drop down to five.
Iyer, however, did score 66 in Cardiff, but Kishan struggled at number four, scoring just 15 runs from two matches. To top it off, the left-handed batter was played as a wicketkeeper ahead of KL Rahul, who has kept wickets in the format since 2023. The visitor's top five have been constant for a long time, something that was not followed in this series.

Jasprit Bumrah returned to India's ODI setup for the first time since playing in the 2023 World Cup final and immediately hit the ground running. Despite taking just two wickets all series, the right-arm pacer troubled English batters and put the brakes on scoring.
However, his injury concerns returned for the third ODI, making him unavailable for selection. In his absence, the rest of the bowlers struggled to curtail the run-scoring. India conceded 387 runs in the game at Lord's, with Gurnoor Brar conceding 97 runs from his 10 overs.
Bumrah is always on the verge of an injury, so other Indian bowlers will need to step up in his absence from time to time.

Earlier, India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has officially assumed charge as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana after reporting to Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender in Hyderabad.
The prestigious Group-I government post was awarded to Siraj by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to Indian cricket. The appointment serves as an honour for the Hyderabad-born pacer, who has established himself as one of India's premier fast bowlers across formats.
Recently, Siraj also met C.V. Anand, who recently began his tenure as the Director General of Police, and extended his best wishes. The fast bowler shared a picture from the meeting on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for the interaction.
"It was a pleasure meeting Shri C.V. Anand sir, DGP, Telangana, and extending my best wishes as he begins his tenure as the Director General of Police. Grateful for the warm interaction, and wishing him continued success in serving the people of Telangana," Siraj wrote on Instagram.

The 32-year-old was last seen in action during India's one-off Test against Afghanistan, where he continued to lead the pace attack.
