Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett added 192 runs off 181 balls to give England a great launching pad. After the former was dismissed for 91, Joe Root joined Duckett and they forged a 101-run stand in quick time. The opening batter was dismissed for 141 off 135 balls and Harry Brook failed to make much of an impact once again. However, Root and Jos Buttler's enthralling 63-run partnership off 19 balls helped England get to a massive score of 387/3.

England defeated India by 27 runs in the decisive third ODI to bag the three-match series 2-1 on Sunday, July 19. It turned out to be a run-fest at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London as England had just too many runs on the board.
Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett added 192 runs off 181 balls to give England a great launching pad. After the former was dismissed for 91, Joe Root joined Duckett and they forged a 101-run stand in quick time. The opening batter was dismissed for 141 off 135 balls and Harry Brook failed to make much of an impact once again. However, Root and Jos Buttler's enthralling 63-run partnership off 19 balls helped England get to a massive score of 387/3.

Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann has backed former Australia teammate Justin Langer as England's next Test coach. The Three Lions are in search of a new red-ball coach after Brendon McCullum stepped down following their 2-1 series defeat at the hands of New Zealand.
Lehmann claimed that he has not received any communication from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about becoming their new coach. The 56-year-old has stated that England already have a name in their mind to replace McCullum as the Test coach, given he was removed midway through the international summer.
The former Australia all-rounder also insisted that he is happy with the current role as Northamptonshire coach. He recently guided the Steelbacks to their third T20 Blast title on Saturday, July 18, defeating Hampshire Hawks in the final in Birmingham.
"I'm very happy coaching Northants and I haven't had any phone calls. You'd certainly listen to it. I'm sure there's so many applicants. My feeling is they've already made up their mind. If you remove someone mid-summer, you've got somebody in mind," Darren Lehmann said on Sky Sports.
Lehmann also backed Langer to do a good job if he is in the reckoning for the England job. The former Australia opener is reportedly one of the names high on the shortlist after Andy Flower rejected the opportunity to take up the role.
"If he (Langer) were to go for it, he'd be a really good coach. Whoever takes it on, they've got some really talented players, I see some good players in the county system," he added.
Langer coached Australia out of the infamous 'Sandpapergate' and into becoming one of the best Test sides in the world. He guided the Aussies to retaining the Ashes in England conditions in 2019 before leading them to a 4-0 win on home soil in 2022.

The statement came as an aftermath of the Caribbean side's harrowing one-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the series at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Jangoo top-scored for the West indies , as they were bowled out for 188, scoring 51 off 73 balls. This loss has put the Windies in a precarious position with their qualification for the marquee event next year after having missed the 2023 edition. Jangoo backed the talent in the team and emphasised the need to start picking up results.
"The kind of quality that this team has, I think we don't deserve to be going to the qualifiers. It's just that's the position that we're in. But we know the quality that we have in our dressing room, all the bowlers, even young Vitel Lawes that we see making a breakthrough in this series here," Jangoo said after the match.
"So it's great signs to see. Going forward now, we have to play the right cricket and get those wins on the board for West Indies," he added.
The Men in Maroon were bowled out in 44.4 overs, making this the third match in succession where they have failed to bat their complete quota of 50 overs. Jangoo pointed this out as an area which requires better efforts and assured that the team will be working towards the qualifiers for the global event, which is set to be played in Africa.

Former batter Aakash Chopra was deeply disappointed after India lost the three-match One Day International (ODI) series to England. The Men in Blue fell to a 2-1 defeat after being beaten in the third game at Lord's Cricket Ground on Sunday, July 19.
India have had a disastrous tour of the British Isles, first losing the T20I series against Ireland and then finishing second in both white-ball series against England. This included a 4-0 defeat in the 20-over contest, where they were completely outplayed by the hosts and were dethroned from their number one status in the ICC Rankings.
Chopra was left worried by the lack of series India have won against top international sides in recent times. Apart from winning a solitary Test and an ODI series against Afghanistan, the Men in Blue have drastically struggled in overseas conditions.
"We have lost another series. It is not a good story. It is actually a sad story because we lost the T20Is in Ireland, then we lost to England, and now we have lost the ODI series. We are not winning anything. We won a Test against Afghanistan and an ODI series against them. What else have we won apart from that?" Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra also does not want to cloud India's recent run of poor results by their triumph at the 2026 T20 World Cup, which was again played on home soil. Winning and losing are habits, and the former player-turned-expert does not want his side to develop the latter.
"We won the World Cup, but we lost the ODI series to New Zealand before that. We lost the Test series to South Africa before that. We are losing more and winning less. We got happy because we won the World Cup in between, but we are losing a lot apart from that. We shouldn't acquire the habit of losing," he added.
India's next assignment is a three-match T20I series away to a resurgent Zimbabwe side, commencing on July 23.

With speculations of his imminent retirement doing the rounds in the media and amongst fans, the veteran batter responded in fine fashion, scoring a magnificent 138 off 110 balls, taking India close to a mammoth 388-run chase at the 'Home of Cricket'. His knock was laced with 17 fours and five sixes, starting cautiously before launching an onslaught on the England bowlers.
Batting first, England put on a mammoth 387 for 3 in their 50 overs on the back of a stellar 141 from Ben Duckett and half-centuries from Jacob Bethell and Joe Root. In response, India started the chase brilliantly with Rohit and skipper Shubman Gill stitching a 147-run opening stand. Rohit was the star of the show, supported by a 77 from Gill and a 74 from Virat Kohli . But a cluster of late wickets meant India fell short of the target by 27 runs in the end, ceding the series 2-1 to the hosts.
Speaking of the game, Rohit said that the Indian team was unable to step up with the bat in the losses in Cardiff and at Lord's after starting the series off on an excellent note. He further backed the bowling attack to perform in the future and termed this part of the learning curve.
"I was a little disappointed with the result because I thought we were playing really good cricket. You know, how we started in Birmingham. We played some really good cricket. We fell a little short at Cardiff with the bat actually. It was not enough score on the board. And then here, again, there was a massive total to chase. We tried everything we could with the bat but again, fell 20-25 runs short with the bat," Rohit said to the BCCI.
"Again, when it comes to bowling, you got to understand these guys haven't played a lot of ODI cricket. You got to give them some time. But yeah, hopefully we can learn from this game, take it into our stride. Make sure when we come across a situation like that, we try and better ourselves," he added.
With his knock, Rohit became the first batter from India to record an ODI century at Lord's, adding another feather to an already packed cap. Rohit stated that he loves playing in England due to the atmosphere and the challenge posed by the conditions that favour seam bowlers.
"Yeah, I love playing in England. There's no doubt about it. The atmosphere, the ground, the pitches. When you turn up here to play any sort of format, it challenges you in different ways. And that's what as a cricketer you want. You want to be challenged all the time. And yeah, I had my time in the middle. I enjoyed it," he added.

Speaking of batting with his long-time teammate, Rohit stated that he enjoys batting with Kohli because of how they understand each other's game and try to take on big chases in a methodical manner.
"We've played our entire career together, so, you know, it was nice to have him in the middle, you know, we've had lot of partnerships. It's always fun batting together, we understand each other so much, and, it's always nice in the middle, bouncing off ideas, try to see what we can do, so there was lot of conversation that was going around in between when we were batting," Rohit said to the BCCI.
