Nell'ambito di un progetto con i Tribunali di Pisa-Livorno-Lucca e il Ministero di Giustizia, dobbiamo sviluppare un motore di ricerca che includa molte delle tecnologie viste nel corso IR e altro (specialmente su NLP) al fine di consentire agli avvocati e magistrati di "navigare" agevolmente le sentenze ed estrarre "utile" conoscenza da esse. Se qualcun* di voi fosse interessat*, mi scriva una email allegando il CV e la lista esami. Il lavoro potrebbe anche configurarsi come tesi magistrale e potrebbe essere associato a una borsa di studio di 6, 9 o 12 mesi.

Dear all, a research grant on Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval will soon be announced. If you are interested in challenging Text Analytics techniques in a domain-specific field please let me know!
The project will focus on applying Information Extraction techniques in a real-world scenario, i.e. on documents from the healthcare field (medical records in Italian).
The aim of the project is twofold: i. extract domain-specific terminology and named entities to improve document retrieval and navigation, and ii. apply Data analytical techniques to the whole collection for a KPI-based assessment.

Advertise it, and please limit the distribution of pirated (digital) copies, not just because of my royalties (which are really negligible, and nowadays you do not write such books for them!), but because a large official distribution is the best recognition of the big work that is behind every book, it is an advertisement for our Alma Mater #UniPI, and ultimately of the algorithmic research pursued @Pisa 😉

Dear students, my group has a well established collaboration with the Software Heritage Archive (INRIA, Paris): https://www.softwareheritage.org/. The project is to design a compressed storage system for their huge collection of source code. We have a preliminary solution but much has to be done, yet. If interested for a master thesis, or for a collaboration (with fellowship), please write me with a copy of your CV.

The department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa (https://di.unipi.it/ https://di.unipi.it/) has opened a call for a position on "Parallel and I/O-efficient compression and indexing techniques for the Software Heritage Archive".

The ACubeLab (http://acube.di.unipi.it/ http://acube.di.unipi.it/) invites expressions of interest for a position with a duration of 12 months (call by 2024).

Admission requirement: hold a PhD or a Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (to be obtained by the interview’s date). The ideal candidate should be familiar with the following topics: Algorithms, Data Structures, Programming, Data Compression.

Scientific Topics: The AcubeLab is working on the design and implementation of a compressed storage and indexing solution for the Software Heritage Archive (https://www.softwareheritage.org/ https://www.softwareheritage.org/), which is an ambitious initiative launched in 2015 by INRIA (Paris), in agreement with UNESCO, and assembling a group of prestigious supporters and committed sponsors including, among the others, Microsoft, Intel, Google, VMWare, GitHub, Societe Generale, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Its main objective is to collect, preserve, and share software in source code form. At the time of writing, SWH is the largest archive of source code in the world with more than 17 billion source files, coming from more than 250 million projects. This project is also part of our effort in the ICSC (Centro Nazionale di Ricerca in High-Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computing) funded by PNRR. The postdoc, involved in the project, will thus have the opportunity to collaborate with an international environment.

Da alcuni anni Sadas sta incrementando le unità di personale informatico con skill elevati nell’ambito dell’AI e nello sviluppo di sistemi di data storage e analytics.

In particolare, negli ultimi anni, il mio gruppo di ricerca ha collaborato con Sadas su vari progetti, tra i più recenti segnalo la realizzazione di un GraphDB e di un motore di inferenza basato su AI-RAG e Knowledge Graph.
