Watch Fidel Castro’s iconic speech in Harlem, New York, held today in 1995, about the successes of the Cuban revolution.
Castro received a rapturous reception in the predominantly Black area not only because of his strong anti-racist and anti-imperialist credentials, but also due to the success of the Cuban Revolution.
Following a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Castro wasn't welcomed at a reception held by then US President Bill Clinton at the New York Public Library.
Instead, he returned to Harlem, an area he had previously visited in 1960 when he visited the UN for the first time as the Cuban leader.
Back then he was invited to stay at the Theresa Hotel by Malcolm X leading to a historic meeting between the two revolutionary leaders.

🔴 CP of Sweden, The Swedish communist reclaim the hammer and sickle
Since the communist party in Sweden was reestablished in 1977, our party has used a logo consisting of a gear, wheats and our initials. The colors have consisted in the red color of socialism, and the blue and yellow colors of Sweden.
This logo is from another time, when our movement was heading straight into eurocommunism, when the party adapted to a place within Swedish capitalism. When the party continued down this route, the revolutionaries that were still left in the party managed to reestablish our party. In this process, the logo followed.
Today, we can observe how the communist movement is weaker than it has been in a long time and our international movement is characterized by ideological ambiguity, and many parties have continued their adaptation, while others have been made into willing tools in the struggle between the imperialists by constantly taking the side of the “lesser evil”.
Reality has put a great task upon the shoulders of communists and we see it as our duty to carry this task with dignity and hope for the future.
We have now decided to do this without our old logo, and instead we have decided to continue the struggle with the clearest of communist symbols: the hammer and sickle.
United under this symbol, millions of workers have fought and we are proud to be able to continue our struggle under the same symbol as those who have forced the wheels of history forward and made the future much more tangible.
The Communist Party of Sweden has therefore, in an extraordinary congress on the 19th of October, decided to change our old logo, under which the communist party in Sweden was reestablished, for a new one, with the hammer and sickle.
In the coming days, the work with replacing our old logo will commence.

But under no circumstances ought we to fall into the error of posing the religious question in an abstract, idealistic fashion, as an “intellectual” question unconnected with the class struggle, as is not infrequently done by the radical-democrats from among the bourgeoisie. It would be stupid to think that, in a society based on the endless oppression and coarsening of the worker masses, religious prejudices could be dispelled by purely propaganda methods. It would be bourgeois narrow-mindedness to forget that the yoke of religion that weighs upon mankind is merely a product and reflection of the economic yoke within society. No number of pamphlets and no amount of preaching can enlighten the proletariat, if it is not enlightened by its own struggle against the dark forces of capitalism.

On this day, 25 October 1943, anti-fascist partisans cut the power to Villa Spada, a mansion in the Marche region of central Italy, before carrying out an attack on the carabinieri (Italian military police) guarding it. The mansion was being used as an arms depot and to hold East African prisoners.Partisans surrounded the villa and entered by climbing the 4-5 metre external walls. Inside, they were attacked by guard dogs, which alerted the guards and resulted in a firefight lasting 2-4 hours.It ended with the surrender of the garrison which had four wounded; two partisans were lightly wounded. The action yielded 16 machine guns and submachine guns; hand grenades, rifles, and revolvers.Many of the freed prisoners subsequently joined the two partisan units (the 'Mario' and 'Roti' groups). From that moment, the partisan brigades of the area - in addition to Australians, French, British, Yugoslavs and Russians who had escaped from prison camps - also included Ethiopians, Somalis and Eritreans.
