Fascism is a reactionary force which is trying to preserve the old system by means of violence. What will you do with the fascists? Argue with them? Try to convince them? But this will have no effect upon them at all. Communists do not in the least idealise the methods of violence. But they, the Communists, do not want to be taken by surprise, they cannot count on the old world voluntarily departing from the stage, they see that the old system is violently defending itself, and that is why the Communists say to the working class : Answer violence with violence; do all you can to prevent the old dying order from crushing you, do not permit it to put manacles on your hands, on the hands with which you will overthrow the old system. As you see, the Communists regard the substitution of one social system for another, not simply as a spontaneous and peaceful process, but as a complicated, long and violent process. Communists cannot ignore facts.

🟡 Massive escalation of violence and numerous arrests by Berlin police at pro-Palestine protests in Germany‘s capital shortly before the Oct 7 anniversary. Over 2000 police officers will be deployed in Berlin tomorrow.

🔴 The repression in Berlin is a reminder to all who believe in the myth of capitalist democracy. There is no room for real change in a system that immediately resorts to violence when its foundation is shaken. The capitalism cannot allow protests, movements, or ideas that threaten its existence to flourish, because its survival depends on the suppression of opposition. Those in power understand this all too well, and that is why they unleash their police forces with such ferocity on peaceful demonstrators.
The violent treatment of protesters in Berlin is not an isolated event. It is part of a broader pattern of repression inherent to capitalist democracies. When the people rise to challenge injustice,capitalism responds with force, revealing the brutal reality behind the facade of freedom.

At the present time, when the landowners and capitalists have come to realise the strength of the revolutionary masses, the most important thing for them is to safeguard the most essential institutions of the old regime, to safeguard the old instruments of oppression: the police, the bureaucracy, the standing army. They are trying to reduce the “civil militia” to an institution of the old type, i.e., to small detachments of armed men standing apart from the people and as close as possible to the bourgeoisie and under the command of men from among the bourgeoisie.

Calculations of GDP, which are notoriously unreliable for particular countries, are even more so for the world as a whole. In India many researchers have questioned the official estimates of the growth rate of GDP, and have suggested that this rate can scarcely be above 4-4.5 per cent per annum over the last several years in contrast to the 7 per cent or so shown by official statistics. The exultation over the acceleration of GDP growth in the neo-liberal period compared to the dirigiste period would appear to be entirely misplaced; and if the growth rate of the GDP has scarcely increased compared to earlier, while inequalities have widened significantly, then the assertion that the condition of the working people has deteriorated in the neo-liberal period, as is clearly shown by other indicators such as nutritional intake figures, would be even more firmly established. But notwithstanding the utter shakiness of GDP data, let us examine what has been happening to world GDP.
