🇺🇸⚡️— US Vice President Vance on Europe:

— They constantly refer to arguments from the past: “We fought together in the Second World War” or “We fought together in the war on terrorism.” We are grateful for that and value such allies;

— But just because you did something smart 25 years ago does not mean you cannot do something stupid today.

🇬🇧🇺🇸⚡️— The UK will intensify the fight against Russia’s “shadow fleet” after the seizure of a tanker, according to The Times

➡️UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced that Britain plans to step up actions against the so-called shadow fleet after British military forces helped the United States seize the Russian-flagged tanker Marinera in the North Atlantic. The UK has described the vessel as part of a network of ships used to evade sanctions and fund Russia’s war efforts. The defence ministry said it will continue to disrupt and deter shadow fleet activity to protect national security and global stability.

➡️The operation involved UK support including surveillance by RAF aircraft and naval assistance, and comes amid an ongoing effort to enforce sanctions and counter illicit oil shipments linked to Russia.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 — Last night, Russian Federation Strategic Forces conducted a strike using a Oreshnik Intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) attack against a critical infrastructure object against the outskirts of Lviv/Lvov region

➡️ It only the second time that Moscow has used the Oreshnik, which was first deployed to hit the central city of Dnipro in November 2024.

📝 Russia's defence ministry said the strike was a response to a Ukrainian drone attack on Vladimir Putin's residence in late December, which Kyiv denies carrying out.

➡️ While the ministry did not specify what had been the Oreshnik's target, shortly before midnight (22:00 GMT) videos began circulating on social media showing numerous explosions on the outskirts of the western city of Lviv.

➡️ Ukrainian authorities confirmed that a ballistic missile had struck infrastructure in Lviv, about 60km (40 miles) from the Polish border.

📝 The Oreshnik is an intermediate-range, hypersonic ballistic missile, meaning it can potentially reach up to 5,500km (3,417 miles). It is thought to have a warhead that deliberately fragments during its final descent into several, independently targeted inert projectiles, causing distinctive repeated explosions moments apart.

After the impact, the skies over Lviv were seen glowing following the Oreshnik strike.
