The victims were reportedly a couple, and the man had bought a ring in preparation to propose to her.

Indian security forces have launched an all-out war against Maoist fighters in Chhattisgarh state, as the federal government aims to “wipe out” long-running armed rebellions in the mineral-rich tribal region.

The Karrigatta hills forest has turned into a “warzone” with more than 10,000 Indian soldiers deployed in the anti-Maoist operation – dubbed “Operation Zero or Kagar”.

At least 27 rebels were killed on Wednesday, including the leader of the Maoists. In the past 16 months, more than 400 alleged Maoist rebels have been killed in Chhattisgarh state.

Russia has been increasing its military presence near the more than 1,300-kilometre border it shares with Finland, prompting concern in European capitals over Russia’s future plans.

Recent satellite images show that Russia has reinforced its military presence over the past few months along the border with Finland, which broke with its decades-long policy of neutrality by joining the NATO military alliance in 2023.

At Kamenka, just 60 kilometres from the Finnish border, more than 130 military tents have been set up since February 2025, capable of housing up to 2,000 soldiers.

🇧🇷🇧🇷⚡️Brasília, Brazil: Man threatens to detonate bomb at Ministry of Social Development

On Thursday, May 22, a man accompanied by a pregnant woman and two children threatened to blow up a bomb at Brazil’s Ministry of Social Development (MDS), located in the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasília.

According to Metrópoles, witnesses said the man had tried to enter the ministry after having an administrative request denied. When barred, he reportedly threw an explosive device — likely a type of large firecracker — outside the building. Staff heard the blast even from the upper floors.

The Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) responded quickly and launched “Operation Petardo”, which is their standard protocol for bomb threats. The Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) and the Fire Department evacuated the area. The man held what appeared to be a detonator and a suspicious package, and at one point carried a child in his arms.

After negotiation, he surrendered. He and the woman were taken to the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (HRAN) and will be taken to the Civil Police Headquarters of the Federal District, according to Agência Brasil.

The incident happened near Block A of the Esplanade, which also houses the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. The area remains under police control.
