Tonight was the first night of my annual "boys weekend," a trip every year where "the 4 horsemen" (a group of 5 guys who have been best friends since we were children) gets together) and there are some lessons that I really wish that we could spread from our microcosm to the greater societal macrocosm.

We grew up in Houston together, but spread out across the world and country after we grew up - most of us have spent many years abroad, but even at home in the US we live across 3 different timezones.

We cross the political spectrum- out of 5, there are some that are decidedly left, some that are decidedly conservative, and some who hate politics altogether.

We work in an array of industries, and some of us work only for ourselves.

Yet despite these divides that split so many in our culture today, we have remained best friends across several decades.

Why?

Because we know that friendship & human connection trumps all.

Why can't the world, or at least out nation, figure that out?

When longing for wholesomeness and family values is deemed extremeism you got a problem...
