They Say It’s Too Difficult To Lower Our Gaze At This Time

‏قال ابن القيم رحمه الله:

العين مرآة القلب، فإذا غض العبد بصره غض القلب شهوته وإرادته، وإذا أطلق بصره أطلق القلب شهوته.

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

"The eye is the mirror of the heart, so if the slave lowers his gaze, the heart will lower its desires and whims, and if he lets his gaze wander, the desire in his heart will be released."

وَعَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ زَائِدَةَ قَال: كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيّ، إِنْ أَرَدْتَ أَنْ يَصِحَّ جِسْمُكَ، وَيَقِلَّ نَوْمُكَ، فَأَقِلَّ مِنَ الْأَكْلِ.

ath-Thawrī wrote to me [saying]: “If you want your body to be healthy, and your sleep to be less, then have little food.”

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

"Whoever sees that his chest doesn't expand, and he couldn't attain the sweetness of Iman and the light of guidance, let him increase his repentance and seeking forgiveness."

قال مالك بن دينار:

يا أهل القرآن، ماذا زرع القرآن في قلوبكم، فإن القرآن ربيع القلوب، كما أن الغيث ربيع الأرض.

Malik b. Dinar used to say:

“O people of the Qurʾan, what has the Qurʾan produced in your hearts? For the Qurʾan is the spring of al-qulub (ie: the hearts), just as rain is the spring for al-arḍ (ie: the earth).”

From The Signs of Beneficial Knowledge Are:

1. Implementing it.

2. Hatred of being praised, complemented, or displaying haughtiness over others.

3. Increasing your humility with the increase of your knowledge.

4. Fleeing from the love of leadership, fame, and worldly pleasures.

5. Abandoning the claim to have Knowledge.

6. Having bad suspicions about oneself, and good suspicion about other people, so as to steer clear from disparaging them.

الحب للقرآن | Love For The Qur’ān


قال ابن مسعود:
"من أحب القرآن فهو يحب الله ورسوله"

قال الحافظ ابن رجب رحمه الله: 
"ومن أعظم ما يُتَقَرَّب به إلى الله تعالى من النوافل كثرة تلاوة القرآن، وسماعه بتفكُّر وتدبر وتَفَهُّم"

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbāli رحمه الله said:
"And from the greatest of voluntary deeds that brings you closer to Allāh is abundantly reciting Qur'ān, listening to it, pondering upon it and understanding it."


قال خَبَّاب بن الأرت لرجل:
"تقرب إلى الله ما استطعت، واعلم أنك لن تتقرب إليه بشيء هو أحبُّ إليه من كلامه."

The Tabi’ī Qatadah said:

I swear by Allah, no group of people forgot the remembrance of Allah عز وجل except that they were unsuccessful and corrupt.

قال الخطيب البغدادي رحمه الله تعالى:

يجب على طالب الحديث أن يخلص نيته في طلبه، ويكون قصده وجه الله سبحانه. وليحذر أن يجعله سبيلا إلى نيل الأعراض، وطريقا إلى أخذ الأعواض، فقد جاء الوعيد لمن ابتغى ذلك بعلمه.

al-Khatīb al-Bagdadī رحمه الله said:

“It is imperative on the learner to purify his intention while seeking knowledge; his motive must be to seek the Face of Allah, the One free from all imperfections. He should be wary of making the learning (or knowledge acquisition) as the means to worldly pursuits, or the path to attaining monetary gains (while teaching people).”

إِذا نَظَر أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ فُضِّلَ عليهِ في المالِ وَالخَلْقِ فلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَسْفَلُ مِنْهُ

If anyone of you looked at a person who was made superior to him in property and (in good) appearance, then he should also look at the one who is inferior to him.

[Sahih al-Bukhari]

‏قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:

من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرًا أو ليصْمُت، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليُكْرِم جارَه، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر
فليكرم ضَيْفَه.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt (or insult) his neighbor; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should entertain his guest generously."

Imam Malik رحمه الله said:

‎"The Sunnah is like the Ark of Nuh. Whoever embarks upon it reaches salvation and whoever refuses is drowned."

قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية:

وإذا رأيت العبد يقع في الناس إذا آذوه ، ولا يرجع إلى نفسه باللوم والاستغفار، فاعلم أن مصيبته مصيبة حقيقية، وإذا تاب واستغفر وقال: هذا بذنوبي، صارت في حقه نعمة

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah:

When you see the servant talking about the people when they’ve hurt him whilst he doesn’t return the blame back to himself and seek forgiveness (from Allah), then know that his calamity is a true calamity. However when he repents, seeks forgiveness and says “this is due to my sins” then this matter (of being hurt by people) will become a blessing for him!

قال الشافعي رحمه الله:

أن اللسان الذي اختاره الله لسان العرب
فأنزل به كتابه العزيز، و جعله لسان خاتم أنبيائه محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم. ولهذا نقول: ينبغي لكل أحد يقدر على تعلم العربية: أن يتعلمها، لأنه اللسان الأولى بأن يكون مرغوبا فيه.

Ash-Shaafi’i ‏رحمه الله said:

“The language that Allah favoured/chose was Arabic. He revealed His glorious Book [The Qur’an] in this language, and He made it to be the language of His final and last prophet, Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم. Therefore, we say: Everyone who has the ability to learn this language should do so, because it is the most desired language [one should learn due to the Qur’an and the Sunnah being revealed in it].”

قال أبو الدرداء رضي الله عنه:

"اعلموا أن قليلا يغنيكم خير من كثير يلهيكم، واعلموا أن البر لا يبلى وأن الإثم لا ينسى."

Abud-Dardāa رضي الله عنه said:

"Know that a small amount which suffices you is better than a large amount which distracts you. Know that the (acts of) righteousness never wear out and that the sin (committed) is never forgotten (by Allah)."

كذلك طالب العلم ما دام جادًّا في طلبه الصَّادق؛ فإنَّه كلما اكتسب مسألة ازداد رغبة في العلم.

“Likewise, the student of knowledge, as long as he is serious in his seeking of knowledge while being truthful, then surely every time he achieves understanding in one matter, he increases in his interest for knowledge”

أمَّا الإنسان الذي لا يطلب العلم إلا ليقضي وقته فقط؛ فهذا يلحقه الفتور والكسل.
