[Singapore regulator urges caution on crypto trading after Binance hack]
The Monetary Authority of Singapore urged retail investors to avoid cryptocurrency trading and not use unregistered firms following Binance’s roughly $6.3 billion hack, according to Lianhe Zaobao.
MAS said Binance has not obtained the license required to provide financial services in Singapore. The regulator added that licensed crypto service providers in Singapore must maintain strict systems for cybersecurity and customer asset protection, but stressed that using regulated firms still cannot fully prevent losses stemming from the inherently high risks of crypto assets. Carlos, head of growth at on-chain trade execution platform Definitive, said all assets in an existing hot wallet were stolen.
In a post on X, Carlos said the incident appears to be part of a broader attack linked to the "noble.base.eth" address and may be tied to a security vulnerability at development platform Railway. Carlos said assets were drained from 96 wallets in a similar manner over about 70 minutes.
Carlos also raised the possibility that a seed phrase or private key was compromised, citing valid signatures from the affected wallet. The hacker mainly moved funds through Relay, and Relay said it blocked the related wallets.
