[21Shares says 2%-5% crypto allocation improved risk-adjusted portfolio returns]

21Shares said in a research report released on Nov. 5 that allocating 2% to 5% of a traditional 60/40 portfolio to Bitcoin and altcoins would clearly improve risk-adjusted returns.

According to the report, Bitcoin’s correlation with U.S. stocks was 38% and with gold was 4% over the three years from October 2023 to September 2026, showing a clear diversification effect relative to traditional assets. Since the launch of spot ETFs in January 2024, BTC’s three-month rolling volatility has stabilized at 38%, easing to a level comparable to major U.S. growth stocks such as Tesla at 46% and Palantir at 59%.

Its asset-allocation model showed that all three profiles that reduced stock exposure and added crypto - conservative at 2%, neutral at 4%, and growth at 5% - posted gains in both annualized returns and Sharpe ratios versus the standard 60/40 benchmark. The benchmark posted a 10.86% return and a 0.57 Sharpe ratio, while the three crypto-allocation profiles showed annualized returns of 11.64% to 13.17% and Sharpe ratios of 0.64 to 0.74.

21Shares recommended classifying BTC as an alternative asset like gold, while treating ETH and SOL as growth technology stocks. It also stressed that adhering to a quarterly rebalancing rule is needed to keep maximum drawdown under control and prevent exposure from expanding during sharp market swings.

[Polygon proposes revamp of smart contract upgrade authority]

Polygon has published governance proposal PIP-93 to restructure upgrade authority for bridge- and staking-related smart contracts, The Defiant reported. If adopted, the proposal would allow Polygon Labs to propose and schedule routine upgrades without obtaining individual sign-offs from the security council each time, while the council would retain the power to cancel or directly execute those actions.

Under the current PIP-29 framework, routine configuration changes require signatures from seven of 13 members and a 10-day delay, while emergency changes require signatures from 10 of 13 members. Under PIP-93, a separate Polygon Labs Operations multisig made up of security and engineering personnel would be able to propose upgrades and administrative changes with signatures from five of nine members. The proposed changes would be subject to a seven-day timelock.

PIP-93 is currently in draft status in the Polygon repository. It was listed as an agenda item for a protocol governance meeting on Nov. 5, and implementation is planned in two stages: first changing the signer composition and operational authority of the existing multisig, then deploying the timelock and integrating the remaining structure. Whether the changes are ultimately applied and when they take effect will depend on future governance discussions.

[VerifiedX launches Vault feature for vBTC recovery after hacks or mistaken transfers]

Bitcoin infrastructure project VerifiedX unveiled a self-custodial asset recovery Vault feature as part of its mainnet 9.0.0 upgrade. The feature lets Bitcoin holders who store vBTC in the Vault set a delay before an outgoing transfer becomes final, allowing mistaken or unauthorized transfers to be canceled during that window and the assets recovered to a self-custodied address designated by the owner.

VerifiedX introduced the safeguard to reduce the risk of asset losses from wallet hacks or user errors by giving users time to reclaim funds before a transfer is finalized. The upgrade also includes Bitcoin light client verification built into VerifiedX validator software, enabling validators to independently verify Bitcoin block headers, proof-of-work and chain progress.

[Kalshi develops specialized prediction contracts for institutional investors]

Kalshi is developing specialized prediction contracts across financial sectors to attract large funds and corporate clients, The Information reported.

The prediction market platform aims to expand prediction markets as an alternative to traditional financial markets and position them as a tool for institutional investors to hedge potential losses. One example would allow investors to buy legal claims at a discount and then take a position on those claims rising in value if related litigation ends in a settlement. The structure would let users trade the outcome of legal disputes and the likelihood of settlements in the form of financial products. Kalshi did not disclose a timeline for launching the products, their trading structure, or how regulations would apply.
