[Crypto sentiment weakens as fear rises, contrarian setup emerges: Santiment]

Investor sentiment toward major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP has weakened steadily for about two months, according to blockchain analytics platform Santiment. The firm said fear in the market expanded after the Binance hack, with prices falling and bullish expectations also declining.

Santiment said Bitcoin recorded 0.69 bullish views for every bearish view, while XRP stood at 0.61. Ethereum was relatively higher at 1.14, but bullish sentiment has fallen sharply from September levels.

The firm added that past market cycles have at times produced contrarian investment opportunities after extreme sentiment deterioration, although fear alone makes it difficult to identify a market bottom. With sentiment ratios for Bitcoin and XRP below 1.0, Santiment said a medium-term rebound would be worth watching if prices do not set additional lows.

[Dolomite keeps halt on new Ethereum borrowing, allows existing position management]

Decentralized lending protocol Dolomite said it is keeping its halt on new borrowing on the Ethereum mainnet as a precaution following the Binance hack.

Markets remain open, and users can still deposit, withdraw, repay, use zap, add collateral, and manage existing positions. Dolomite said it temporarily suspended seven markets on Oct. 29 — ETH, USDC, USDT, WBTC, USD1, LINK and rUSD — then blocked all new borrowing across Ethereum later that evening before reopening those markets. After an additional review on Oct. 30, Dolomite said it decided to keep the restriction on new borrowing in place.

The protocol said it had not observed any malicious activity on Dolomite and that no assets were at risk from the attack. It added that it will continue monitoring the incident and its potential impact on lending markets, and plans to resume borrowing once protective measures are no longer needed.

[Swan Bitcoin CEO says AI exploits pose a more immediate threat than quantum fears]

Swan Bitcoin founder Cory Klippsten warned that AI-based exploits pose a far more direct threat to the Bitcoin ecosystem than recently heightened fears over quantum computing. Klippsten said attackers weaponizing large language models were using sophisticated prompt injection to identify and exploit zero-day vulnerabilities in infrastructure and smart contracts in real time. By contrast, Klippsten said commercially viable quantum computers capable of breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography were at least a decade away, adding that pushing a quantum-resistant fork now would only create unnecessary code complexity and vulnerabilities.

[Custodia asks U.S. Supreme Court to hear Fed master account appeal]

Custodia Bank, a Wyoming-chartered bank focused on cryptocurrency, has filed its final reply brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in its challenge to the Federal Reserve’s refusal to grant a master account, urging the court to stop what it described as the Fed’s tyranny over financial innovation.

The dispute follows a ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals siding with the Fed, saying a regional Federal Reserve Bank has discretion to deny a master account even to a legally eligible depository institution. Custodia countered that under the Monetary Control Act of 1980, the Fed is required to provide payment services to eligible nonmember banks, citing the statute’s use of the word "Shall."

Custodia also argued unelected officials had weaponized the power to deny access to the payments system, acting like a fourth branch of government and seriously undermining state sovereignty over bank charters and the dual banking system. In the appellate case, Judge Timothy Tymkovich also issued a strong dissent, saying the decision gave the Fed unlimited power to refuse access.
