[XRPL developers propose patch for token approval loophole]

XRPL developers have proposed four code changes to close a loophole that allowed users to hold assets without prior approval from token issuers, CoinDesk reported. The changes would be included in the "fixCleanup3_5_0" network upgrade and have not yet been deployed on mainnet.

On the XRP Ledger, issuers of assets such as stablecoins or fund tokens can require prior approval for token holdings as part of user identity checks. But a loophole was found that could bypass that process through automated market maker liquidity pools and through approval checks for accounts already holding tokens. Developers are now pushing to require holding approval for both assets that make up an AMM liquidity pool when users acquire the pool's LP tokens, while also applying the approval requirement to accounts that already hold the tokens.

[Ballet founder says recovery of BTC stolen in Binance hack is nearly impossible]

Ballet founder Bobby Lee said the chances of recovering Bitcoin stolen in the Binance hack are extremely low, Bloomberg reported, citing a Bloomberg TV interview.

Lee said the stolen BTC is already in the hackers’ possession, making stablecoins the only assets that can realistically be targeted for recovery. Even then, Lee added, freezing assets and actually getting them returned are separate matters, and recovery would require a lengthy process in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. He also said the limited drop in Bitcoin’s price despite a large-scale hack suggests the cryptocurrency market has matured.

Layer-1 blockchain Initia said it plans to resume L1 and rollup operations on Nov. 2. The chain upgrade will apply a MoveVM patch that has undergone an independent security audit and isolate the remaining forged balances held by the hacker, while preserving existing transaction records.

Any proceeds generated in the process will be returned to affected liquidity providers.

Asset transfers through bridges and exchanges will resume after network stability checks are completed. For security reasons, the withdrawal waiting time for LayerZero OFT-based WETH and AUSD0 will be set at 24 hours.

GoPlus said the vulnerability was in the Arbitrator.claimMessage function, which records the hash of a message authenticated through the source chain’s official message-service callback in the temporary storage variable finalizeMessageHash. After the call, the value was not deleted and each call did not require a new authentication callback, allowing an already authenticated message to be reused.
