[GSR executive sees room for growth in South Korea’s crypto market]
Frank Chaparro, head of content at crypto market-making firm GSR, said after attending Korea Blockchain Week that South Korea’s crypto market has substantial growth potential, with retail participation already very active but institutional infrastructure still relatively underdeveloped.
In a post on X, Chaparro said the biggest gap is market structure, adding there are not many institutional market makers or custody firms and there is still no meaningful OTC market like the one in the U.S. Chaparro said this could change significantly over the next few years.
He added that if infrastructure improves, South Korean conglomerates could begin adding crypto to their balance sheets as part of diversification, with allocations reaching as much as 10%. Chaparro also said Upbit is a key player in the South Korean market and major U.S. investors, including a16z, showed considerable interest in supporting South Korean founders.

[Tom Lee says ETH could rise well above $10K within 12 months]
Bitmine Chairman Tom Lee said in a recent interview with CoinDesk at Korea Blockchain Week that while he is not certain ETH will reach $10,000 by year-end, it could climb well above that level within the next 12 months. Commenting on Arthur Hayes’ $10,000 year-end target, Lee described the forecast as conservative. Lee added that his mention of ETH rising 25-fold was a hypothetical assumption used to explain potential shareholder returns for Bitmine, not a specific price forecast.

[U.S. Treasury sanctions A7 network over support for Iran sanctions evasion]
The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned the A7 network, a Russia-linked shadow financial network, after designating it as a significant transnational criminal organization for supporting Iran’s sanctions evasion and related activity. FinCEN also proposed a rule barring fund transfers tied to transactions involving A7 affiliates.
According to the Treasury, A7-affiliated firms processed more than $17 billion globally from January last year through June 2026, and were also used as a channel for moving funds linked to the Central Bank of Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC. The Treasury said A7 has used A7A5, a ruble-based token issued by Old Vector, a Kyrgyzstan-based A7 network company sanctioned last year, for sanctions evasion and international transactions.
The Treasury added A7 is linked to Nobitex, Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange sanctioned in June, and supported transactions related to North Korea’s cryptocurrency exchange hacking activity.

[DAXA vice chairman urges full review of crypto tax regime]
Kim Jae-jin, vice chairman of the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA), called for a full review of the current crypto tax system ahead of the planned January implementation of virtual-asset taxation next year, speaking at the CODEVASP Digital Asset Compliance Forum 2026 in Seoul on Oct. 2, Edaily reported.
Kim said the current law makes it difficult for individual taxpayers to make their own judgments in situations such as crypto card payments, which are now widely used. In that environment, investors could end up becoming tax evaders without realizing it, Kim added. Despite three delays, the contents of the bill remain unchanged from when they were drafted in 2020, and a comprehensive review is needed, Kim said.
