[IMF approves $138M for El Salvador, waives breach of BTC accumulation cap]

The International Monetary Fund has completed its second and third reviews of El Salvador’s loan program and approved about $138 million in funding, Reuters reported. Although El Salvador did not meet the IMF’s condition limiting Bitcoin accumulation, the IMF granted an exception based on corrective measures by the authorities and renewed commitments. The IMF said El Salvador had made progress on fiscal reforms and that the economy was performing better than expected, amid improved public security and recovering investor confidence. It also cited a renewed commitment from Salvadoran authorities that they do not plan any additional Bitcoin accumulation beyond documented donations.

[Fed Vice Chair Jefferson says more time may be needed before deciding on another hike]

Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson said on Oct. 1 that inflation has remained too high for too long and that the risk of it becoming entrenched still exists, but more time may be needed to determine whether another rate hike is necessary. Jefferson emphasized that future policy adjustments should be decided through a close analysis of incoming data, changes in the economic outlook and the balance of risks.

Jefferson said U.S. economic activity and the labor market remain solid, while rising energy prices, a boom in AI investment and tariffs are all affecting the economy and should not be evaluated separately. He added that U.S. Treasury yields across maturities have risen further since the September meeting, suggesting investors are reassessing a changing macroeconomic environment, and said policymakers will continue to assess whether inflation can return to target quickly enough and what monetary policy stance is most appropriate as more data becomes available.

Nick Timiraos of The Wall Street Journal, often described as the Fed whisperer, said Jefferson's remarks suggested the Fed could wait longer before raising rates again, aligning with the existing view of New York Fed President John Williams. According to Timiraos, two of the Fed's top officials are effectively casting doubt on an October rate hike, even as investors had continued increasing bets on such a move until just a few days ago.

[WP: Disillusionment with Trump grows among young crypto investors]

Disillusionment is growing among young male cryptocurrency investors who had responded positively to U.S. President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance during the 2024 election, The Washington Post reported.

Crypto influencer Carl Runefelt said Trump had been seen as a hero by the crypto industry a few years ago but had now become the opposite. Runefelt added that crypto already carried a strong image as a scam, and that perception had hardened further after the president launched his own memecoin. The newspaper said disappointment had also deepened amid a sharp drop in the price of the TRUMP token, a strategic crypto reserve filled only with seized assets rather than new purchases, and the Trump family’s crypto businesses. At the same time, it said major crypto companies and industry figures still support Trump, while some investors view his appointment of pro-crypto officials to regulatory agencies and his enactment of stablecoin legislation positively.

The closer the reading is to 100, the stronger the altcoin season signal.

[Bitcoin may rise faster after clearing $85K sell wall: Glassnode]

Bitcoin buying pressure absorbed sell-side liquidity clustered around $85,000 on Sept. 30, Glassnode said on X. Glassnode said BTC had repeatedly tried and failed over the past week to absorb sell orders at that level, but the supply now appears to have been exhausted, with remaining sell orders likely withdrawn. With less sell-side liquidity above the current price, BTC could climb faster than before, according to the analysis.

[Analyst says Bitcoin may hold up despite mounting risk-off signals]

Real Vision crypto market analyst Jamie Coutts said Bitcoin may prove more resilient than expected even as risk-off signals emerge in the dollar, the MOVE index and other markets.

In a post on X, Coutts said debt has risen faster than liquidity since 2021, with markets beginning to show signs of stress again. He said similar moves are now visible in the dollar, the MOVE index, long-term Treasury yields and credit markets, adding that stocks and liquidity-sensitive assets such as BTC have historically weakened in that environment. Coutts added, however, that BTC already underwent a sharp correction earlier than expected and is not showing excessive leverage or crowded positioning, which could help it hold up even if a risk-off phase unfolds.

Alex Shevchenko, who leads cross-chain protocol NEAR Intents, said the identity of the attacker who stole about $3.8 million has been identified and demanded the funds be returned within 48 hours, according to The Defiant.

In a post on X, Shevchenko said, "We have identified you," and called for the funds to be sent back to the Bitcoin, BNB Chain and Ethereum, and Solana addresses he disclosed. He added, "You likely know the proper procedure for responsibly disclosing a vulnerability when you find one," and said the opportunity to use that process would remain open for only 48 more hours.

The Defiant also reported the stolen funds had not yet been deposited into any of the three addresses disclosed by Shevchenko. NEAR Intents has not released details on the attacker's identity, the exploit transactions, or a breakdown of the affected assets. The protocol had previously said the hack stemmed from a bug in interactions between Omni's deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract.
