[Exchange BTC holdings fell by 35,800 last week, Santiment says]

Bitcoin holdings on exchanges fell by about 35,800 BTC to 1.325 million between Sept. 20 and 27, according to on-chain analytics firm Santiment.

Santiment added that about 20,000 BTC had flowed into exchanges between Sept. 13 and 20, leaving net outflows of roughly 15,900 BTC over the past two weeks. The firm said last week’s decline was concentrated on a specific date, with about 26,700 BTC leaving exchanges on Sept. 22 alone, around double the typical weekday outflow at the time. Given the scale of the movement, Santiment said the drop in exchange holdings was unlikely to be a simple accounting change, although exchanges may have moved BTC to internal wallets that are not being tracked.

[South Korea’s digital asset bill faces delay, clouding prospects for passage this year]

The schedule for a public hearing on South Korea’s Framework Act on Digital Assets, which had been discussed for Sept. 30, has not yet been finalized, Asia Today reported, citing industry sources on Sept. 29.

Political circles had initially discussed a timeline under which a public hearing would begin in September, followed by a review by a bill subcommittee in November and passage of the digital asset bill during the regular National Assembly session. However, with the government’s proposal submitted later than expected, the process has run into delays from the public hearing stage. With the National Assembly’s annual audit set to begin on Oct. 6 and continue for about three weeks, the public hearing and related bill discussions may slip to after November, according to the report.

[Bitmine could reach 5% of ETH supply by early November: Cointelegraph]

Bitmine could secure 5% of Ethereum’s total supply by early November if it maintains its recent pace of purchases, Cointelegraph reported.

Analyzing 12 weekly reports from July 13 to Sept. 28, the outlet said the Ethereum accumulation firm bought about 259,000 ETH over that period, or an average of 21,600 ETH per week. As of Sept. 27, Bitmine held 6,001,302 ETH, equal to 4.9% of total supply of 122.1 million ETH. Reaching 5% would require about 6.105 million ETH, leaving roughly 103,700 ETH to go. At the average buying pace of the past 12 weeks, that would take about 4.8 more weeks, although the actual timing could vary depending on the size of future purchases.

[Bitcoin golden cross mirrors 2015 pattern, with 150% gain from that cycle peak]

Bitcoin logged daily closes below its 200-day moving average for 293 straight trading days before forming a golden cross on Sept. 8, Binance Research said.

The firm said six of the 12 past golden crosses came after BTC had stayed below the 200-day moving average for at least 150 days. In those cases, Bitcoin rose about 100% to 600% at its peak within a year of the golden cross. By contrast, in four of the other six cases, where the period below the 200-day average was relatively short, the maximum gain within a year remained under 100%, according to Binance Research. The firm added the current pattern most closely resembles the golden cross seen in October 2015, after which BTC climbed about 150% at its peak.

[CoinDesk says 6% US 10-year yield would not necessarily hurt BTC]

A rise in the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield to 6% would not necessarily be negative for BTC if it is driven by concerns over fiscal deficits and government debt, according to a CoinDesk analysis.

Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, said higher Treasury yields tend to weigh on BTC when they rise because of Federal Reserve rate hikes, but the impact differs when yields climb on fiscal instability. Thielen said the 10-year yield could rise to 6% in the coming months.

CoinDesk said yield increases tied to fiscal instability could instead support alternative assets such as BTC. The outlet added that BTC fell 64% in 2022 amid the Fed’s aggressive tightening, but has roughly doubled since late 2023 while the 10-year yield rose 1.35 percentage points. CoinDesk said downside pressure similar to 2022 could reappear if the Fed resumes aggressive rate hikes.

[BTC needs to hold above $84K-$85K to extend gains, Glassnode says]

Bitcoin is facing resistance in the $84,000-$85,000 range, where long-term holders are most heavily concentrated, according to a Glassnode analysis. In a post on X, Glassnode said sustaining the uptrend would require BTC to break through that range and hold above it. The chart showed the average MVRV price, or the level at which aggregate BTC holder returns are in line with the historical average, at $96,900, while the true market mean, or the average cost basis of more actively trading investors, stood at $77,200.

[Former CFTC chairman says Congress must legislate crypto spot market rules]

Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam said Congress needs to establish clearer and more durable legal standards for regulating cryptocurrencies and prediction markets, according to Crypto in America.

Speaking at Georgetown University’s Financial Markets Quality Conference, Behnam said the rapid growth of prediction markets has increased the need to draw a clearer line between financial products used for risk management and gambling. With Senate discussions on the CLARITY Act, a digital asset market structure bill, failing to make progress, Behnam said regulating the crypto spot market under the CFTC’s existing authority amounts to a stopgap measure. The current approach is little more than a patchwork fix using tape and clips, he said, adding that a clearer long-term regulatory framework is needed.

David Wells, CEO of Ondo Perps, Ondo Finance’s RWA-based perpetual futures exchange, said it makes sense to consider entering the U.S. market, according to The Block.
