[Kazakhstan to allow crypto miners to generate power from surplus oilfield gas]
Kazakhstan is moving to let cryptocurrency mining companies run their own power plants using surplus associated gas produced at oil fields, Euronews reported.
Under the plan, miners would secure cheap and stable electricity, while oil producers would earn revenue by selling gas that had previously been flared. Kazakhstan had restricted miners' electricity use after power shortages and blackouts followed the 2021 mining boom, but shifted course last year toward incentive policies aimed at reviving the legal mining industry. Associated gas is currently being flared at around 40 to 60 oil fields, and the Energy Ministry and the Ministry of AI and Digital Development are in talks on establishing a legal framework.

[Peter Brandt says XRP's transaction utility alone is hard to tie to higher valuations]
Veteran trader Peter Brandt said XRP’s low fees are notable, but its usefulness for transactions alone does not justify a high market valuation.
In a recent Cointelegraph interview, Brandt distinguished Bitcoin as a store-of-value asset and XRP as a transaction-focused cryptocurrency. While Brandt said XRP can be used for efficient, low-cost transfers, he argued that utility as a medium of exchange does not necessarily lead people to hold the asset over the long term, citing the dollar as an example. Brandt added that cryptocurrencies should be evaluated by function, separating transaction assets, store-of-value assets, and platforms such as Ethereum. He did not provide a specific price target for XRP in the interview.

[CZ says his social media posts do not move the crypto market]
Binance founder Zhao Changpeng, better known as CZ, said on the 'When Shift Happens' podcast that his social media posts do not have enough influence to move prices across the broader cryptocurrency market.
CZ said he has maintained a bullish view on Bitcoin for a long time, and because he posts five to 10 times a day, messages published just ahead of positive market news may simply be coincidental. He added that if he had known market-moving information in advance, he would not have posted about it, stressing that any overlap between his posts and subsequent market gains was only a matter of timing.

[Bloomberg analyst says 5% U.S. 10-year yield could curb Bitcoin’s appeal]
Bloomberg senior analyst Mike McGlone said Bitcoin’s relative investment appeal could weaken if the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rises to around 5% while stock market valuations remain elevated.
McGlone’s analysis focused on how the rate and Bitcoin price backdrop has changed sharply since 2021. Unlike 2021, when the U.S. 10-year yield was around 0.5% and Bitcoin was under $10,000, both the benchmark yield and Bitcoin’s price are now about 10 times higher, suggesting investment flows could move in the opposite direction from that period.
McGlone added that a comparison of the year-end ratio between U.S. stock market capitalization and public debt since 2001 shows the ratio fell to about 1.2 times in 2018 and 2022, when Bitcoin dropped about 70%. The ratio now stands at about 2.1 times. He said a gradual decline in stocks could become a factor that pressures both Bitcoin and interest rates at the same time. If stock prices and Treasury yields remain high instead, Bitcoin could lose relative appeal as a speculative asset as it competes with many other cryptocurrencies while offering neither cash flow nor interest income.

[Analyst sees slower Bitcoin climb instead of blow-off top this cycle]
Crypto influencer and former FTX community partner Benson Sun said the current Bitcoin market cycle may show a gradual bullish trend with successive record highs, rather than the kind of sharp surge and clear peak seen in 2013 and 2017.
Sun said Bitcoin’s main buyers have shifted since 2021 from retail investors to institutions such as listed companies, spot ETFs, and corporations. As those institutions mainly buy spot holdings and some use delta-neutral strategies, Sun said traditional indicators such as funding rates and the MVRV Z-Score may not rise to extreme levels even at this cycle’s peak. Sun added the top in this cycle is more likely to emerge when additional institutional inflows begin to weaken, rather than when retail investor sentiment overheats.

[Kraken parent Payward expands toward financial infrastructure model]
Payward, Kraken’s parent company, has spent billions of dollars on acquisitions and investments over the past two years as it pushes a strategy to move beyond an exchange and integrate trading, banking, asset management, and institutional services into a single financial infrastructure platform, CoinDesk reported.
The company is expanding across four business pillars: the Kraken exchange, banking, asset management, and its B2B infrastructure unit, Payward Services. To enter the U.S. derivatives market, Payward acquired NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion, and this year it bought Bitnomial, which owns a derivatives exchange and clearinghouse, for $550 million. In Europe, the company is also pursuing a bank acquisition.
Payward is also strengthening partnerships with financial institutions in tokenization. Nasdaq invested $100 million in Payward and expanded cooperation on stock tokens and market surveillance technology, according to CoinDesk. The two sides are targeting the second quarter of 2027 for the launch of stock tokens. The London Stock Exchange is also reviewing a stock-token business with Payward.

[California becomes first U.S. state to ban politicians from issuing, promoting memecoins]
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed Assembly Bill 2409, which bans public officials from issuing or promoting crypto assets. The move makes California the first U.S. state to legally prohibit politicians from engaging in memecoin-linked activities.
The bill strictly bars public officials from using their positions to create their own tokens or promote them for profit. It was introduced to address ethical lapses in politics and prevent investor harm, and passed with unanimous bipartisan support in both the state Senate, 40-0, and the state Assembly, 78-0.

[Buterin unveils 2030 Ethereum roadmap centered on cryptographic world computer]
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin outlined a sweeping architectural overhaul in a blog post aimed at turning Ethereum into a cryptographic world computer by 2030, combining blockchain infrastructure with modern cryptography.
Buterin said the "Hegota" upgrade set for next year would be the last fork under the current model, after which the protocol redesign would shift toward advanced technologies including recursive STARKs, automated formal verification and quantum-resistant cryptography. Under the plan, nodes would no longer need to re-execute all data directly, instead relying on PeerDAS data sampling and ZK-SNARK proof verification to maximize both processing speed and privacy.
By 2030, when the overhaul is expected to be complete, Ethereum’s block production, or slot, time is projected to be shortened to four to eight seconds, while finality is expected to reach eight to 32 seconds. Buterin added parallel processing and off-chain signature aggregation under EIP-8288 would help position decentralized networks as hybrid infrastructure that improves their own performance and scalability, rather than simply raising costs.
