[Chainalysis ranks Brazil first in crypto adoption, South Korea fifth]

Brazil ranked first globally in cryptocurrency adoption in a Chainalysis assessment, followed by the U.S. in second, Nigeria in third, Japan in fourth and South Korea in fifth.

The index was calculated using four factors: fund flows through crypto services, domestic P2P activity, cross-border fund flows and on-chain holdings. Brazil did not rank first in any single category, but posted consistently high rankings across all four, placing second in cross-border fund flows, third in both service fund flows and P2P activity, and fourth in on-chain holdings.

According to Chainalysis, overall crypto market capitalization fell by around 50%, while the scale of on-chain economic activity declined just 1.6% to $9.4 trillion from $9.5 trillion.

[Nexo survey says complexity, not risk, is top barrier for wealthy crypto investors]

Operational friction and complexity in using crypto, rather than concerns about risk, are the biggest obstacles to incorporating digital assets into the long-term wealth management strategies of high-net-worth investors, crypto lender Nexo said in a survey report, according to Finbold.

The survey covered high-net-worth individuals in the U.S., the UK and Argentina, and scored from one to 10 how deeply crypto is embedded in investors’ financial lives based on investment size, holding period, retirement planning, whether it replaces traditional assets, and risk perception. Despite two-thirds of participants holding crypto, the average score was only 4.83, indicating that while most investors have crypto exposure, they are not yet building wealth through it. Only 4.7% of surveyed investors scored seven or higher, a threshold defined as viewing crypto as part of a long-term financial plan. In addition, about 20% of respondents said they expect crypto to become the most important driver of personal wealth growth over the next 10 years, ahead of salaries, stocks and real estate.

[Bitwise says institutions held crypto allocations despite 50% market drop]

Bitwise said a survey found no institutions reduced their crypto allocations while the market fell 50%. The survey was conducted from late March through April among investment professionals at 15 institutions, including universities, endowments, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and public companies. Despite a downturn in the crypto market from October last year through April this year, not a single respondent cut exposure, while some added to positions.

Most respondents said they are using spot crypto ETFs or plan to do so. Crypto allocations among those institutions ranged from 0.5% to 13% of investable assets, with most at around 1% to 2%. Bitwise said concerns including governance, operational issues and reputational risk remained key barriers to increasing institutional crypto allocations.

[Quantum threat tracker points to March 8, 2028, for possible Bitcoin break]

Quantum Doomsday Clock, a platform that tracks quantum computing risks, has identified March 8, 2028, as the earliest potential date for quantum computers to break Bitcoin encryption and trigger a broader crypto collapse.

The platform measures when Bitcoin’s Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm, or ECDSA, could be compromised based on advances in quantum computing. It warned that high-performance quantum computers could use Shor’s algorithm to derive private keys from Bitcoin’s elliptic curve signatures. The platform said the hardware threat is becoming more concrete as commercialization accelerates, citing a $2 billion investment by the U.S. government this year and IonQ’s buildout of a 256-qubit system tied to Nvidia. It also estimates 2029 as the point when the international financial system and the internet could face a systemic collapse, with government and military systems projected to fall in 2030.

Uyeda added the SEC is moving toward a complete shift in its legal interpretation.

Uyeda also said the SEC’s new innovation exemption framework for securities tokens is a kind of pilot program and could create significant opportunities for both new market entrants and established traditional financial firms.
