🌾While conservation attention has historically focused on forest ecosystems, Madagascar is also home to ancient grasslands and savanna ecosystems that support distinctive biodiversity with high levels of plant endemism and unique evolutionary lineages.

🦋On this International Day of Biological Diversity, let us remember that protecting diverse ecosystems and landscapes is crucial to supporting the biological diversity of life on earth.

🏦This policy brief highlights the overlooked grassy ecosystems of Madagascar and presents a case for their role in Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) as a critical component of the landscape mosaic. It explores the ecology of these biodiverse ecosystems and connects local restoration actions to the global dialogue on increasing recognition of grasslands, savannahs, and rangelands.

The clouds are particularly visible in the Sandwich RGB band—which combines the high spatial detail of a visible band with the temperature information of an infrared one. When put together, this imagery gives meteorologists new insights into weather systems.
