📷 1: Landsat 5 image of Devils Lake, a natural closed-basin in northeastern North Dakota. This image, acquired August 10, 1995, shows the area shortly after water started accumulating during a wet cycle that has persisted for years.

📷 2: Landsat 8 image of the same area acquired August 28, 2025. Elevated water levels flooded cropland and impacted infrastructure, prompting mitigation efforts including road elevations, levee construction, and controlled outlets to manage flood risk.

Two #fires have erupted across Southern California in the last week. Their smoke and heat were captured yesterday from @NOAA's #GOESWest (#GOES18) 🛰️. According to @VCFD_PIO, Ventura County's #SandyFire has scorched 1,385 acres and is 5% contained. In the Channel Islands, the #SantaRosaIslandFire is 0% contained and has burned 16,000 acres.

Severe storms swept through the Central Plains yesterday evening and into the early hours of this #TimeLapseTuesday. As they moved east, the storms kicked up dust and fanned the flames of wildfires in the Southwest.
@NOAA’s #GOESEast (#GOES19) 🛰️ captured all three phenomena—the storms, the dust and the smoke from the fires—in one frame.
