🌲A gender-forward approach to Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) ensures every voice shapes the work and that its benefits are shared fairly.

🔨The following gender-forward FLR incubation and acceleration protocol was developed by the IUCN, IMFN, and its members. It is designed to simultaneously tackle challenges from gender imbalances to resource constraints -- guiding stakeholders on how to apply IUCN tools holistically across every stage of a FLR project.

🌲Across the world, forests sit at the centre of three interconnected crises: climate change, the collapse of biodiversity, and land degradation, desertification, and drought.

🌐To address these intertwined challenges, the world adopted three landmark agreements known as the Rio Conventions (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD).

🙌These agreements are designed to work in tandem to address the triple planetary crisis, but oftentimes opportunities to generate cross-sector benefits are missed.

👪This is where the International Model Forest Network (IMFN) comes in. Bringing together more than 60 Model Forests, across over 35 countries and 70 million hectares of land, the IMFN demonstrates what integrated, community-led forest governance can achieve for both people and nature. In doing so, they are helping countries meet their commitments to all three Rio Conventions at once.
