Newly acquired Landsat 8 & 9 imagery captures the Qury Fire near Custer, South Dakota.

As of March 17, the fire has burned more than 8,400 acres and is about 27% contained. Crews are strengthening lines ahead of warm, windy conditions.

In these images, bright red highlights the heat signature of the fire. Unburned vegetation appears green, contrasting with the darker burgundy-brown areas where the landscape has already burned.

Science from space helps scientists and land managers monitor wildfire conditions and assess impacts after the fire.
