🌿 The 38th Deutscher Naturschutztag ("German Nature Conservation Day") hosted this week in Berlin demonstrated the importance of strong alliances in nature restoration.

As part of Germany's and IUCN's leadership in scaling restoration globally to combat climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss, IUCN Forest and Grasslands Team member Anique Hillbrand met with Federal Minister Carsten Schneider, Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen, and Eike Christiansen to share perspectives on the importance of restoring forests and other landscapes worldwide, particularly under the Bonn Challenge.

Initiatives like the Bonn Challenge (https://t.co/let4Qa2QNX) demonstrate that when governments, civil society, scientists, and communicators work together, restoration can move from ambition to real impact on the ground—cleaner air and water, improved biodiversity, and more sustainable livelihood opportunities, including through the development of bioeconomies.

Building on recent studies highlighting the effects of climate change on European forests (https://t.co/7fOGPUyk3R), Minister Schneider spoke on forest protection and the need for restoration throughout Germany and at a global level. His message emphasised that forest conservation is key in existing forests and that forest landscape restoration (FLR) on degraded land is more important than ever for a resilient future.

RT @antonioguterres: For decades, dependence on fossil fuels meant dependence on volatility. In past oil shocks, countries had little choice but to absorb the pain.

Now they have an exit ramp: Homegrown renewable energy has never been cheaper, more accessible, or more scalable.

The resources of the clean energy era cannot be blockaded or weaponized. There are no price spikes for sunlight & no embargoes on the wind.

The fastest path to energy security, economic & national security is clear:

Speed up a just transition away from fossil fuels & toward renewable energy.

In the world’s most fragile settings, energy is more than infrastructure.

It’s a strategic enabler of peace and recovery.

@UNDP is helping countries harness sustainable energy to power that transition.
