The incident began when a 61-year-old vacationer asked Basin to lower the music on the beach, and in response, Basin threatened to shoot his wife. Subsequently, the politician brandished a knife in front of several people, threw it into the ocean, and got into a fight, where he was knocked unconscious.
This is not the first incident involving Basin. Previously, he was arrested after he arrived at the county administration building with a firearm. He called the charges "lies and a farce" at the time and claimed that the police were "hunting him like a dog."
