ChatGPT ads

Q: How does a network decide my lead is a 'duplicate'? The user filled the form twice on purpose.
A: Most rejections you'll see aren't about your traffic being fake — they're about deduplication rules you can't see, and they vary by offer.
Networks dedupe leads to avoid paying twice for the same person. The matching usually runs on one or more of:
— Email or phone, normalized (so JOHN@x.com and john@x.com count as one).
— Device fingerprint plus IP within a time window.
— The advertiser's own customer database — if that person is already a known user, the lead is a 'duplicate' even on their first submit to you.
That last one surprises people. A user who's genuinely new to you can be a long-time customer of the advertiser, and you won't get paid for re-acquiring them.
Dedup windows differ: some offers reject duplicates forever, others only within 24 hours or 30 days. Ask your manager two things: what field does dedup match on, and what's the lookback window? Those two answers explain almost every 'duplicate' rejection.
Short version: 'duplicate' often means the advertiser already knew this person, not that your user double-submitted. Learn the match field and the window.

Q: I run EU traffic. Whose job is GDPR consent — mine, the network's, or the advertiser's?
A: Short and unwelcome answer: probably yours too, more than you'd like. GDPR (the EU data-protection law) assigns responsibility to whoever decides why and how personal data is processed — and if you set up the tracking and collect the lead, that often includes you.
In a typical affiliate flow there can be several controllers (parties deciding the data use), not one. The advertiser is a controller for their CRM. The network is often a controller for conversion data. And if your landing page drops tracking cookies or collects form data before a user consents, you're processing personal data of EU residents — which pulls you in.
Practical baseline for EU/UK traffic:
— A real consent banner that blocks non-essential tracking until the user opts in (not a pre-ticked box).
— A privacy policy naming who receives the data downstream.
— Don't fire tracking pixels before consent on EU visitors.
This isn't legal advice, and your obligations depend on what you actually collect. But 'the network handles it' is a risky assumption when your own page sets cookies.
Short version: in EU flows there's usually more than one controller, and your landing page can make you one. Banner, policy, no pre-consent pixels.

Q: My conversion rate is amazing — why would that get me flagged instead of praised?
A: Because in fraud detection, 'too good' is a signal, not a compliment. Outliers in either direction draw a second look.
Antifraud teams build a baseline for each offer: what click-to-conversion, lead-to-sale, and approval rates look like across all clean partners. When one source sits far above that curve, a few explanations compete:
— You genuinely found a great audience (it happens).
— Incentivized or misled users who convert but don't stick (high refunds/chargebacks follow).
— Cookie stuffing or fake conversions injected server-side.
— Bot traffic that's good enough to fill a form but produces zero downstream value.
The team can't tell which from the rate alone, so they watch the back end: do your conversions retain, deposit again, pass KYC, avoid disputes? A 40% conversion rate with great retention is a star. The same rate with users who vanish after day one is a red flag.
If you're legitimately high-performing, lean into it — share your funnel logic with your manager proactively. Transparency turns a suspicious outlier into a trusted top partner.
Short version: extreme rates trigger review because fraud and brilliance look identical from the front. Retention is what separates them — make sure yours holds.

Posh Friends 🤝

Q: The network keeps asking me to switch from a pixel to a 'postback.' Does it actually matter for getting paid?
A: It matters a lot, especially for any flow where the conversion happens away from the browser. This is one of the most useful upgrades you can make.
A pixel fires from the user's browser when a thank-you page loads. It's fine for simple web conversions, but it breaks when: the user has cookies/JS disabled, an ad blocker eats it, the conversion finishes in an app or call center, or the sale gets approved hours later after manual review.
A postback (server-to-server, S2S) is a direct call from the advertiser's server to your tracker, carrying a click ID. No browser needed. It fires when the conversion is actually confirmed on their side — including delayed approvals and offline events.
For compliance and antifraud, postbacks are also cleaner: there's no client-side code a fraudster can spoof to fake a pixel fire, and the click ID ties each conversion to a real click you logged.
The one requirement: you must pass and store the click ID end to end, or the postback has nothing to match against.
Short version: pixels miss delayed and off-browser conversions and are easier to fake. Postbacks confirm real, attributable events. Switch.

Q: My leads got blocked for 'velocity.' What does velocity even mean here?
A: Velocity is the rate at which something repeats in a short window — and antifraud systems treat unnatural rates as a tell, independent of whether each individual lead looks fine.
A velocity rule watches how often a shared attribute appears over time. Common ones:
— Many submissions from one IP or device in minutes.
— A burst of leads all sharing a near-identical fingerprint.
— The same phone or email pattern (sequential numbers, plus-addressing tricks) repeating fast.
— Sign-ups arriving at perfectly even intervals — humans are bursty and irregular; scripts are metronomes.
The insight is that any single lead can pass every other check and still be part of a pattern that's impossible for organic traffic. A real campaign produces a messy, uneven flow. Automation produces suspiciously smooth or spiky curves.
If you got a velocity block on clean traffic, the usual cause is a placement where many users share an exit IP (corporate networks, some mobile carriers, or a misconfigured proxy in your stack). Trace the IP and fingerprint spread of the blocked batch — that's where the answer is.
Short version: velocity flags unnatural rates, not bad individual leads. Even, dense, or bursty timing from shared attributes is what trips it.

Q: Some of my rejected leads can be 'requalified' and some can't. What decides that?
A: You're seeing the difference between a soft and a hard rejection, and knowing which you've got saves you from wasting time appealing the wrong ones.
A soft rejection means the lead failed a fixable or temporary check:
— Outside business hours for a call-center offer (it can convert later).
— Pending manual review.
— A formatting issue, like a phone number that needs reformatting.
— A capped offer that filled up — the same lead might pay on a re-run.
These are worth a polite requalification request, because the underlying user may be perfectly valid.
A hard rejection means the lead failed an absolute rule and won't ever pay:
— Wrong geo or invalid/disconnected number.
— Confirmed duplicate of an existing customer.
— Flagged as bot or fraud.
— A user who explicitly declined or asked for removal.
Appealing a hard rejection just burns goodwill with your manager. Sort your rejection log by reason code first, then only push back on the soft pile.
Short version: soft = temporary/fixable, worth requalifying; hard = absolute, leave it. The reason code tells you which.

A: A device fingerprint isn't a serial number; it's a probabilistic profile built from dozens of browser and device attributes. Different people genuinely can share one, and that's worth understanding before you assume a false positive.
The fingerprint is assembled from things like screen resolution, time zone, language, installed fonts, browser version, OS, and canvas/WebGL rendering quirks. Combined, they're usually unique enough to recognize a returning visitor without cookies.
But collisions happen legitimately:
— Stock corporate laptops imaged identically share fonts, resolution, and OS build.
— Default phones of the same model with the same OS version look near-identical fresh out of the box.
— Privacy browsers that deliberately spoof a generic fingerprint make many users look the same on purpose.
So a fingerprint cluster is a flag, not a verdict. The risk rises when the same fingerprint converts many times across different identities fast — that's the farm or emulator pattern, not coincidence.
If your traffic legitimately comes from a uniform device pool (one office, one device giveaway campaign), tell your manager up front so the cluster reads as context, not abuse.
Short version: fingerprints are probabilistic and can collide honestly. It's high reuse across many identities that signals fraud — explain real clusters proactively.
