Germany and Sweden are running their first-ever joint rapid-reinforcement drill for Gotland, the strategically vital Baltic island sitting halfway between mainland Sweden and the Baltic states.

Exercise Silver Wotan (Sept 14-23) tests how quickly German troops, ships, aircraft, and air defense systems can cross the Baltic, land at Visby, and integrate with Swedish forces already defending the island.
