The Germans say they want to create the largest conventional army in Europe.

Well, if I were president, I would tell them I do not think that is a good idea.

Because if they build the biggest army, they must explain: who are they preparing to go to war against?

So I said how I intended to deal with the debt that we owe to the independent central bank — the European Central Bank.

The central bank does not have the right to directly buy government debt from a state. They decided this — it is absurd.

But it gave itself the right, recognized by European courts, to buy French debt securities from private banks.

So the European Central Bank has a large amount of French debt securities. And I propose, since we are all members of the euro system, that this debt be cancelled.

If you owe yourself a million, you can simply say you no longer owe yourself. That is what I propose to do with the French debt held by the European Central Bank.

Those who chose to support Ukraine against its invasion are the same people who prepared nothing, organized nothing, and failed to realize their decisions would first hurt their own people — especially those suffering the most economically.

The constant terror we've seen in recent days is a new tactic by Putin before the elections.

We will respond.

And over the past year, I think we've become stronger.

Our guys are doing a great job, giving diplomacy a chance.

Without a strong position on the battlefield, a strong Ukrainian position, there will only be ultimatums. But today, diplomacy is possible.

We seek a diplomatic resolution to this conflict, not a kinetic resolution.

I think we agree with the Israelis on the end state for Gaza.

They just have crazy elections, and that makes them a little irrational in certain regards.

Whether they actually govern depends on whether BSW clears the 5% threshold — if it doesn't, seats redistribute and an AfD majority becomes possible.

Every other party still refuses to coalition with them.

AfD state leader Ulrich Siegmund says the party wants to govern alone.

A possible anti-AfD coalition of CDU, SPD, Greens, and Linke is mathematically tight and politically awkward — CDU has ruled out a formal coalition with Die Linke.

Siegmund has campaigned on mass deportations, ending new wind farms, changing the state slogan to "Think German," and reintroducing the national anthem in schools.

The result is being read as a direct protest against Chancellor Merz's federal government and a preview of the 2029 federal election.

Two more state votes follow soon in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The question now is whether the firewall holds or whether the AfD actually takes executive power in a German state for the first time since 1945.
