India and Russia are exploring deeper defence cooperation, with the S-500 missile defence system and Su-57 stealth fighter emerging as possible future deals following Prime Minister Modi’s talks with Putin.

Russia has also reportedly proposed co-production of the S-500 in India.

The Maldives has emerged as a transit hub for hundreds of millions of dollars in Western goods bound for sanctioned Russian buyers, according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.

Goods including microchips, aerospace parts, optical equipment and other dual-use components are flown into Malé, where local logistics firms alter shipping documents and transfer the cargo directly onto Aeroflot flights to Moscow without formally entering the Maldives.

Russian imports from the Maldives surged from less than $7 million in 2021 to more than $630 million in 2022, despite the Maldives having virtually no industrial base.

Trade remained significant at $160 million in 2024, although Russian data has since been restricted.

German investigators have identified suspects in the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

The government says they were acting on behalf of Russian state agencies.

One suspect is a Belarusian with a Russian passport whose DNA was found at the scene.

A second man, with Latvian and Russian passports, is suspected of helping organize the attack.

More than 20 homemade rockets were prepared in an apparent attempt to disable an electrical substation near the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg.

The rockets were designed to fire copper wires onto high-voltage lines, causing short circuits and potentially triggering a major power outage.

At least two rockets reached the power lines, causing minor damage, while timers were installed to launch more than 20 projectiles simultaneously.

Police are investigating the incident as possible terrorism and sabotage of critical infrastructure.
