Four decades of corporate monopoly over American media can be traced to a simple shift in regulation.
The FCC once required media companies to serve their communities & hold onto outlets for at least 2 years before selling.
The 1996 Telecommunications Act opened the floodgates - allowing the first wave of mass consolidation, gobbling up radio stations & local media across the country.
The promise at first was lower prices & a more equal playing field.
Most Americans weren't paying attention to media regulation bills. And corporations were busy crafting narratives to sell deregulation to the public.
The result: increasingly concentrated ownership producing increasingly narrow narratives - presented as the natural status quo.

WATCH: Terrified Ceuta woman pleads for troops โWeโre aloneโ:
We need the military on the streets. They are not here.
We are alone.
We cannot call the police or the Civil Guard because they are overwhelmed.
We need urgent help. I am surrounded. I am scared.
How could I not be scared? I am shaking. This is an invasion.
It started in Ceuta, but this is Spainโs border, Europeโs border.
Today it was Melilla, tomorrow it will be the Canary Islands, then Tarifa. This is unacceptable.

Trumpโs administration gutted CISAโs election-security operations, then began rebuilding them just months before the 2026 midterms.
States have already had to fill the gap themselves, spending more on cybersecurity while warning that federal support and nationwide threat intelligence are too late and too limited.

The New York Times is one of the worst propagators of pro-Israel media framing - yet it maintains credibility through a subtle technique.
They use vague language. "Hamas said this, Israel said that" - never framed within international law, never calling Israeli actions war crimes.
NYT editors told journalists they couldn't use words like refugee camp, occupation, anything that would expose what Israel is actually doing.
And every now and then, a major exposรฉ breaks through as a "balancing act".
That's exactly how the monolithic narrative is protected. One piece of truth, used to hide the overwhelming pattern of propaganda.

Israel has been compelling big tech to censor Palestinian content for years.
Facebook has removed Palestinian websites at Israel's behest. Ex-CIA & ex-FBI officials have been hired to monitor Meta.
X under Elon Musk is no longer the relatively open platform it once was.
Independent journalists are under direct attack. Max Blumenthal of the Gray Zone had all his equipment confiscated upon returning to the US.
Ali Abunimah of Electronic Intifada faced the same treatment, while the same is happening in the UK.
Some spaces remain - Substack, even LinkedIn still have vestiges of free expression. But it is a battlefield.

The Ellison family - known Zionists with direct ties to Netanyahu - are now major media moguls.
David Ellison handed CBS News to self-proclaimed fanatical Zionist Bari Weiss, who has effectively destroyed the network.
The anchor she installed is the same one who treated Ta-Nehisi Coates with open hostility when he said he recognized apartheid in Israel & the West Bank - after visiting both.
This is what we call billionaire capture - the endpoint of decades of media conglomeration & wealth concentration.
The latest Ellison merger was blocked. But shadow banning & algorithmic suppression are already well underway.
They won't fully succeed - the internet remains too open. But complacency is not an option. Vigilance is required to ensure this resource is not taken away.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir:
My congratulations to the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sรกnchez, for his profound commitment to welcoming immigration and "human diversity."
As someone who demonstrates great concern for Hamas and the residents of Gaza, I call on you to translate words into actions: open the doors of Spain and grant refuge to the residents of Gaza who seek to emigrate.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute a little more to Spain's "human diversity."

Mainstream media included images of Palestinian suffering - but framed within justification for Israel's actions.
When Israel destroyed Al-Shifa Hospital, US intelligence & Biden administration confirmed Israel's claim that Hamas had a vast Pentagon-like complex underneath.
The Washington Post's own December 2023 report exposed the lie. Doctors Without Borders called for international intervention from inside the hospital. Nobody responded.
Meanwhile, mainstream media showed babies dying in the ICU - then repeated Israel's talking point: hospitals aren't protected when the enemy is inside.
That is false. Under international law, the attacking party is obliged to protect patients, doctors & medical staff regardless.
They lied as usual. They fabricated claims. And the media repeated those claims without challenge.

The fear of nuclear weapons has been used repeatedly to justify attacking countries.
Iran was said to be developing nuclear, which is a lie. They had supposedly already destroyed Iran's nuclear capacity 6 months earlier.
Now nuclear weapons are the justification again. While simultaneously offering Saudi Arabia nuclear weapons.
Israel's own nuclear arsenal goes unquestioned. Who gave Israel nuclear weapons?
The US is arguably the most dangerous nuclear power on earth - still developing, now including tactical nuclear weapons.

Israel is a pariah state - but an unleashed one. The absence of accountability has emboldened them to now take on the West Bank.
Netanyahu is determined to achieve Greater Israel. They've replicated the Gaza war in Lebanon.
In the West Bank, the Israeli government & military are handing weapons to settlers, empowering & legalizing them.
Yet the New York Times' line: it's a small group, a handful of juvenile delinquents. Most settlers are law-abiding. This is a lie. And they're still telling it.
The New York Times needs to get a clue. Because it's going to come crashing down. It cannot last. The media will have to change.

Russia has imported about 30,000 tons of gasoline from Morocco to ease fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on major refineries.
Russia also turns to India, Belarus and Kazakhstan for fuel while domestic gasoline production has fallen sharply.

The United States stands with the people of Spain, and all Europeans, against this egregious violation of their sovereignty and human rights.
This unacceptable incident is the direct result of the Spanish Government's deliberate efforts to enable and facilitate mass illegal migration into Europe.
We are considering actions to defend Americans at home and abroad from this threat and stand ready to assist other European allies considering similar options.
