Two RAF F-35B jets have been stranded at Lajes Airport in the Azores for two months after mechanical faults on their maiden flight from Lockheed Martin's factory in Texas.

The ยฃ88m jets remain Lockheed Martin's property until repaired.

It's the latest in a string of F-35 reliability problems for the RAF.

Another jet was stuck in India for a month last year, one crashed into the Mediterranean in 2021, and a 2025 audit found the fleet could only perform a third of required missions.

UAE President MbZโ€™s Advisor Anwar Gargash:

We've grown accustomed to Iranian bullying over long decades until it became part of the political landscape in the Arabian Gulf, and credibility has been lost between aggressive rhetoric and hollow declarations of friendship.

And today, after the brutal Iranian aggression, the regime is trying to consecrate a new reality born from a clear military defeat, but attempts to control the Strait of Hormuz or encroach on the UAE's maritime sovereignty are nothing but fragments of dreams.

And whoever wants to coexist with its Arab surroundings must realize that trust is lost, and restoring it is not achieved through slogans, but through responsible language, safeguarding sovereignty, and genuine commitment to the principles of good neighborliness.

Turkish President Erdogan:

As Tรผrkiye, we will continue to stand for peace and stability against those who invest in war and chaos.

In Gaza, Lebanon, and other parts of our region, we will remain firmly committed to defending the shared values of humanity against genocidal networks that massacre children, women, and the elderly without distinction.

Turkish President Erdogan:

The Turkish Army has never destroyed any place it entered throughout history; on the contrary, it has restored places that had been devastated.

Even under the harshest conditions, our army has never harmed any person, living being, tree, or city other than enemy elements; instead, it has rebuilt and revived places that had been destroyed.

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov:

Rus is Ukraine. But Rus is more. Much more. And Ukraine is the homeland of all that, even what we are fighting against.

We gave away a large part of our history, gave it away voluntarily, and those, as much as we gave away, privatized it.

But they are nobody; we are Rus. And we must rule over all of them.

War Profiteer or Fraud? The CSG Question

Czech defense firm CSG, led by CEO Michal Strnad, lost 13โ€“18% of its market value in a single day on May 4 after short-seller Hunterbrook published a report disclosing it had taken a short position in the stock.

The report accused CSG of manipulating its market value through misleading IPO disclosures.

Key allegations: passing off third-party ammunition resales as in-house production, hiding a NATO factory suspension, and burying a โ‚ฌ1.4B shareholder dispute before going public.

Retail investors were left exposed to inflated valuations.

CSG denied everything.

NATO's Rutte on arms production:

Youโ€™ve seen the American president being very forceful with the big primes in the US โ€” forcing them to quadruple production.

I spoke with one of those CEOs a couple of days later โ€” he was still trembling from that meeting in the White House.

So that was good news.

Iranโ€™s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has ordered that Iranโ€™s highly enriched uranium remain inside the country.

Before the war, Iran had signaled it might export part of its 60%-enriched uranium stockpile, but that position changed after repeated U.S. military threats.

As Trump relied more on loyal envoys than career diplomats, experienced Iran nuclear experts were pushed out of government.

During talks with Tehran in Geneva, European officials were stunned to find themselves explaining basic uranium-enrichment concepts to the American team.

One diplomat questioned how the U.S. could negotiate a nuclear deal without fully understanding the science behind it.

As Trump shrank the National Security Council and regular strategy meetings disappeared, officials inside the White House were left searching for clues about U.S. foreign policy.

Staff reportedly kept Trumpโ€™s Truth Social feed open on dedicated screens, treating his posts like real-time policy directives.

As Americaโ€™s diplomatic system hollowed out, foreign governments stopped relying on embassies and official channels to understand Washington. Instead, they built backchannels to people personally close to Trump โ€” figures seen as having real influence over his decisions.

South Korean officials, frustrated by unclear signals during tariff negotiations, bypassed U.S. trade diplomats and worked through White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to better understand Trumpโ€™s intentions. Japan turned to SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son, one of Trumpโ€™s golfing partners, using him as an informal messenger to the White House.

At the center of this new system were Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Though Kushner held no formal government role and Witkoff had no diplomatic experience, foreign governments increasingly treated them as more important than traditional diplomats because of their direct access to Trump.

After Trump warned that โ€œa whole civilization will die tonightโ€ if Iran failed to make a deal, panic spread through European capitals.

One European government urgently asked its diplomats in Washington a chilling question: Was the United States preparing to use nuclear weapons?

Officials turned to the U.S. State Department for answers, expecting reassurance from Americaโ€™s traditional diplomatic channels. Instead, according to a European diplomat, State Department officials admitted they didnโ€™t know what Trump meant or what might happen next.

US intelligence says Iran is rebuilding its military faster than expected, restarting drone production just weeks after the ceasefire.

Officials estimate Iran could restore major drone capabilities within six months, despite US-Israeli strikes.

Intelligence also suggests much of Iranโ€™s missile and drone infrastructure survived.
