Spain approved a plan to grant legal status to about 500,000 undocumented migrants, offering them a one-year renewable residence permit.

To qualify, applicants must have lived in Spain for at least five months and have no criminal record.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called it an “act of justice” and said the move is needed to support Spain’s ageing economy.
