The Iranians originally put forward a 10-point plan that was fundamentally unserious and completely unacceptable. It was literally thrown in the garbage by President Trump and his negotiating team.

Many outlets have falsely reported that this plan was acceptable to the United States. That is not true. With the president’s deadline fast approaching and the U.S. military decimating Iran with each passing hour, the regime acknowledged reality to the negotiating team.

They then put forward a more reasonable, entirely different, and condensed plan. President Trump and his team determined that this new, modified plan was a workable basis for negotiations, to be aligned with our own 15-point proposal.

The president’s red lines — namely, the end of Iranian enrichment in Iran — have not changed. The idea that President Trump would ever accept an Iranian wish list as a deal is completely absurd.

White House on reports that Strait of Hormuz was closed again:

With respect to the initial reporting from Iranian state media, the president was made aware of those reports before I came to the podium. That position is completely unacceptable.

Again, this is a case where what they are saying publicly differs from what they are saying privately.

We have seen an uptick in traffic in the Strait today, and I will reiterate the president’s expectation and demand that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened immediately, quickly, and safely. That is his expectation.

It has been relayed to him privately that what is being reported publicly is false.

Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire, that has been communicated to all parties involved.

Trump is dispatching his negotiating team, led by the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Mr. Kushner, to Islamabad for talks this weekend.

The first round of those talks will take place on Saturday morning, local time, and we look forward to those in-person meetings.

Reporter: Is there any concern that Netanyahu is trying to undermine the ceasefire?

Leavitt: The president spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu last night, and in that private conversation, Prime Minister Netanyahu conveyed exactly what he has said publicly — that he supports the president and that Israel remains a key ally and partner of the United States.

They have been a tremendous partner over the past six weeks, and we thank them for their heroic efforts.

Reporter: Has Iran given the administration any indication that it would simply turn over its highly enriched uranium?

Leavitt: They have. Yes.

Reporter: What was your understanding of what Trump meant when he said this civilization is going to be eliminated?

Leavitt: I think it was a very, very strong threat from the president of the United States — one that led the Iranian regime to cave and ask for a ceasefire, and to agree to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

It was a strong threat that produced results. And as the Secretary of War stated at the Pentagon this morning, it was not an empty threat by any means.

The Pentagon had a target list ready to be executed at 8 p.m. last night.

The insinuation by anyone in this room that Iran somehow has the moral high ground over the United States is insulting, considering the atrocities they have committed against our people and our military over the past five decades.

They were tested, and they failed.

In Lebanon, we have not stopped, even for a moment.

Reporter: I am Iranian, and I have been speaking with people there during the blackout. One of my family members said goodbye to me yesterday. What message should we be sending to Iranians?

Leavitt: The president’s and my main priority is to make sure that clear messages are sent to the American people.

We hope that Iran will be a country of prosperity.

Reporter: Can you tell me that the United States is still considering withdrawing from NATO? Is that still a possibility?

Leavitt: It’s something the president has discussed, and I think it’s something he will be discussing in a couple of hours with Secretary General Rutte. You may hear more directly from him.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s 10-Point Proposal is a “workable basis on which to negotiate” and the main framework for the talks.

However, 3 clauses of this proposal have been violated so far:

1- Non-compliance with the first clause of the 10-Point Proposal regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon — a commitment that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also explicitly referred to and declared as “an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately”;

2- The entry of an intruding drone into Iran airspace, which was destroyed in the city of Lar in Fars Province, in clear violation of the clause prohibiting any further violation of Iran airspace;

3- Denial of Iran’s right to enrichment, which was included in sixth clause of the framework.

Now, the very “workable basis on which to negotiate” has been openly and clearly violated, even before the negotiations began.

In such situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable.

Just today, Netanyahu launches his harshest attack against Lebanon since the offensive began.

His contempt for life and international law is intolerable.

Lebanon must be included in the ceasefire.

The European Union must suspend its Association Agreement with Israel.

We said that the ceasefire would be focused on Iran and America’s allies.

JD Vance:

If Iran wants to let this negotiation fall apart over Lebanon, which has nothing to do with them, that is ultimately their choice.

We think that would be dumb, but it’s their choice.

JD Vance on the Strait of Hormuz:

We’ve already seen an increase in traffic today; hopefully, we’ll see an increase in traffic tomorrow. We actually think that we are seeing signs that the straits are starting to reopen.

I think you guys have probably seen oil prices have come down. So, I think the oil markets, the gas markets, are seeing the same thing.

But the president’s been very clear: the deal is a ceasefire, a negotiation. That’s what we give, and what they give is that the straits are going to be reopened.

If we don’t see that happening, the president is not going to abide by our terms if the Iranians are not abiding by their terms.
