A UK nuclear submarine captain has stepped back from his role after renewed scrutiny over past contact with Labour MP Joani Reid.

The Royal Navy had already investigated their relationship in 2024 over potential blackmail risks and found no misconduct or security breach.

The issue resurfaced after Reid’s husband, David Taylor, was arrested on suspicion of spying for China. Fresh checks again found no security concerns.

The captain and Reid had exchanged messages and met once but deny any improper relationship. He stepped aside voluntarily and remains in the Royal Navy.
