An Italian military base in Erbil, northern Iraq, was hit overnight by an airstrike, Italian defense officials said Thursday. No injuries were reported.

The strike was first thought to be a missile but was later identified as a drone that destroyed a military vehicle.

Rising oil prices are beginning to translate into higher gasoline prices in the United States, something Trump is reportedly concerned could turn markets and voters against him if it continues.

Advisers inside the White House warned that the situation could worsen once oil markets fully react to the instability.

Because of the risk, the administration has discussed emergency steps to limit the impact on U.S. consumers, including restricting some American oil exports and easing certain shipping rules to move fuel more easily within the country.

Officials believe the administration may only have a short window before higher gas prices become a serious political problem.

The U.S. will permanently close its consulate in Peshawar, Pakistan, the closest American diplomatic mission to Afghanistan.
